Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi all,

I've had a really really awful day. i had some really awful things happen and felt shaky and faint throughout the day and had a medical test as well. then some triggering training tonight that i left early from which is probably unprofessional but i think i just needed to and now im just going over everything that happened and trying to figure out if there was more i could have done, done something differently and im swimming in circles trying to swallow my own tail. my stomach feels like it has twisted itself into several knots and my throat is very tight. plus raging with pain because of this darn cold i have!

sorry for the rant/rave

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member sorry to hear your day has been so rotten. Sounds like you really need to put your physical health first tonight and try to let go of what happened for a little while if you can. The deep breathing might help and definitely rug up. Can you have lemon, ginger and honey drinks? Or even just some honey? It does help soothe the throat. Thinking of you and sending warm wishes.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member,

It might help to interrupt that 'going over and over' process in your mind if possible, but I understand that anxiety like that can be hard to stop sometimes. Is it possible for you to have a bath? Anything you can do to relax your body might help relax your mind too. Sending you calming energy after such a difficult day.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita @Former-Member I slept from early this morning until after 11 so my day has been somewhat shorter than usual but it was great to get the extra sleep. Then coffee with my neighbour, finished getting organized for my camping trip and was back at my neighbour's for dinner.

Long chats with both my mother and brother this evening too, sorting out Mum's Advanced Health Directive and Enduring Power of Attorney. Still a work in progress. My brother and sister are somewhat pissed off with Mum as she's said some pretty insensitive things in the course of all the emails to and fro overnight.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member, sounds like a dreadful day. Maybe pick it apart tomorrow and focus on something more soothing tonight? Honey and lemon sounds great. And a bath is always lovely. I'm watching some delightful trash on tele - The Catch - which is a good diversion. Do you have any guilty TV pleasures?

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, glad you feel you feel you might be slowing down a bit, however that is happening. Imagining you making a nice cup of tea now. 🙂

@eth, maybe what your mum is saying is related to her age and state of health at the moment. Hopefully your siblings might be able to see past it. Other than that, it sounds like a good day for you.

Day has been okay here. Waited for the plumber to arrive in the morning but it turned out he wasn't coming after all. Did washing, napped a couple of times to catch up on sleep missed last night. Did some admin work on the video I've just completed. Waiting game now to see if I'll get the artists permissions to release it publicly. That's about it here.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member,

Sounds like a day off tomorrow might be very helpful, especially since you are battling a physical health issue as well as the anxieties. With your cold, that would also avoid spreading it around at school too...

Yes, I'm always a bit nervous at this stage of the video process because I never know whether the artists will like what I've done or give permission for me to make it public. There's only been one instance so far where a writer didn't much like what I'd done. In that case, I try to just view all the work I've done as good private practice in further developing my skills. This one has taken a good couple of weeks of fairly intensive effort. Enjoyable though. 🙂

I find it very hard in general to concentrate on TV these days for some reason and have no cable. You sound more into what you watch though so Netflix sounds a good way to relax and distract too.

p.s. to answer your question about the plumber, the rental managers have decided now that it may be a roofing problem instead. We don't think that's it in our case but it's not a major issue anyway. It only happens when the rain is fully torrential and we can be on guard for it next time and pull everything out of the wardrobe before the seepage starts.
