Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

I did a year at TAFE to teach ESL - which was pretty cool

I have not had what I imagine a breakdown would be - rather I would lose the plot for a few days and have a break in hospital and get back to trying to help my son -

But whatever happens when you have a breakdown would be quite different I think - it would be hard to pick up the threads of your life after that

Women's Ed sounds interesting - so many women have no idea of how to find a place in the world - perhaps things are different for younger women now - but in my time it was expected that I would get married and have children - I loved my kids but I was no happy camper cleaning the house and cleaning the house and what else - cleaning the house

Yeah the women's education course is really aimed at challenging the stereotypes. It's also a really supportive environment. Many women in my course faced challenges from DV to being refugees from war torn countries so it was a fantastic place to come together and share stories.

My grandmother went back to uni at 73yo to study lapidary. She and my grandfather had been part of a gemstone club after they retired, and she wanted to be able to cut the stones they had found to make brooches from them.

Before that she had been a working mother to six kids. She was a teacher - took on a house cleaner and a laundress so she could keep teaching. Ahead of her time, I think ....
