Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Reasonable well, relatively speaking thanks @Faith-and-Hope. How about you?

I nodded off early in front of TV, then made it to bed by 10pm.

Re: Night Shift

@1stepup61 Hi and welcome to the forums. Even though this thread is called Night Shift someone or several are often around at all hours of the day or night. What is it you are trying to figure out? If you use the @ symbol and then select a name from the drop down box or type it in exactly as you have seen it the other person will usually get a notification that you are posting to them or replying to their comment. Why don't you give it a try now and reply to me if you feel like telling me a bit about yourself.

I have bipolar 1, PTSD and at the moment chronic insomnia so I'm often here.

Re: Night Shift

Just woke up again. Have had a fair bit of broken sleep since about 8pm last night so hopefully won't need to return to bed again for the rest of the day. How's it going with you, @eth? Good to see you, as always.

Good morning @Mazarita how was your night? I don't think @1stepup61 is receiving notifications of our replies either.

Re: Night Shift

Sorry missed your post @Mazarita your night sounds just like mine. It's nice to feel rested for a change isn't it? What do you have planned today? I'm going to the opening of a new shopping centre just around the corner from home with my shopaholic neighbour. Hopefully we'll catch some sales.

Re: Night Shift

@eth,

Feeling okay at the moment after about 7 hours now. Hope you find something worth buying when out with your neighbour today. I have hydrotherapy this afternoon. Domestic tasks are getting way behind here too. Especially washing. Hoping to get to that today.

I think 1stepup61 is getting the notifications but it's possible they may need some basic advice on how to operate computer, links etc. Also, I agree with them and Silenus that the architecture of the site is hard to navigate, especially at first. Blueboard, for example, had a much simpler design.

Re: Night Shift

Do you enjoy the hydrotherapy @Mazarita? I hope you have a heated pool to do it in.

My data seems to have rolled over a day earlier than I thought it would but my notifications are still a bit slower than usual. It's been taking me ages to catch up on threads I'm in but I guess that's one way of getting the message that I've been on here a bit too much in recent weeks. I'm going to cut back to twice a day if I can.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I know what you mean about excessive forum engagement at times. Sounds like a good idea with the twice a day thing. Good luck! Meanwhile I'm enjoying the tech glitch that only has me receiving notifications when someone specifically tags me or likes one of my posts. Makes the email inbox a lot more managable than it used to be and far less overwhelming. I've given up trying to keep on top of threads except this one. But I even miss reading posts here too sometimes. I just check through from time to time in the 'manage subscriptions' part of my profile for new posts in threads I'm subscribed to. Trying to be everywhere at once burns us out I think.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I think what blew it out with me is that 3 times in the last few weeks different people were talking about ending their life or having a serious crisis and I got very involved for days at a time.

But also I confess I had a bit of what they call FOMO on fb - fear of missing out!

My Dr says she really wants me not to be on the computer at night. I just said I'd do it less but couldn't imagine not doing it at all at this stage with being awake so often at night.

I wouldn't want to give up our chats though. I feel like you're really a friend, not an acquaintance.

I've just started again missing some notifications completely too. Just the last few days. Not sure if the problem is with the site or because my data ran out.
