Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita

I am a Trekkie from way back when James T Kirk and all his mates made this huge step into the future -

wow - but I have not watched Next Gen until recently - so maybe Trekkies get to have some new stuff (that isn't so new) as we get older - and so low tech too -

That Data episode yesterday - that I recorded because I thought I might fall asleep - and then watched it twice - was on again early in the morning - about 2.30am I think - and now it's on again - Sunday afternoon.

I am getting a fix or something - Data is my favourite too - I guess most of us here know what it's like to be "different" and some of us are "too clever" - been there - I am a nerd - something I don't need to let everyone know

Terrific

@eth

I think that anyone who is living with a severe condition of any kind is always in a twilight world of misunderstand and prejudice - it is so hard to live our lives with a chronic and life-changing conditon - and people don't understand -

Sometimes with their best intentions people cannot understand - or stuck themselves do not want to understand - it's threatening

And yet - what about us - how are we supposed to cope with ourl lives this way? If people get upset hearing about it - how are we supposed to feel?

I guess we know more about the life in the shadows and our journey to get out - and it is always hard

Tension between us and people who can't acknowledge us and how we are makes it harder - and we don't need this - but here we are

Alas

I'm okay @Shaz51....how about yoruself ? Do you want me to post the health care plan I have to write out and put on a ub stick and hand over to proffessionals ?

My husband is good. He was getting very frustrated for a long while and I get overwhelmed very easily......any aggression ...I get memories of my Mum's aggression and want to go to bed. I guess it's got better after 18 years of therapy but I will still be senseitve to any grouch....

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Decadian You're spot on with your comment re misunderstanding etc.

Hi @PeppiPatty and @Shaz51 too and anyone I've missed who's around.

My mother is supposed to be one of my main 3 support people when things are not going so well. I told her the other night that I was having another depression phase (bipolar 1) and she asked me if it was 'involuntary' or not. Really? ... I thought she was better informed, including by me, but also as an academic quite capable of researching so as to better support (like I do when she has a health problem). Seriously?! I didn't react at the time but it's been echoing ever since. Like I would voluntarily be having these challenges. Bah humbug. Vent over.

Re: Night Shift

Sigh, that repose would be very disheartening to hear... I do think there is this perception that once we are diagnosed and had counselling that if we aren't 'all better' it must be because we are choosing not to be all better?? I don't know really ... But I'm here with you

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member DV next door again tonight - twice this week, so I'm pretty shattered and on edge too. But I need to at least try to sleep soon, even if I pretty much know it'll only be a few hours at most. Trying to have a regular bed time between 10.30 and 11.30pm.

I wish I could help you more and hope that at least just coming on here and writing what's going on and sharing does help you somewhat.
