Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

i find the tech doesn't usually keep me awake, it's more how you use it i think. there are some filters that you can get to turn down the brightness and give you a warmer screen which is less disruptive for sleep

Re: Night Shift

Hey @plasmo, yeah I have the feeling that I would just end up being more unhappily awake if I didn't turn on the computer. Things that make sense in theory don't always work in practice I find. But it might be worth me experimenting with over the next four weeks until I see psych again. But not tonight! How's it with you?

Hi @plasmo and @Decadian

Yep the mother thing is a tricky one @Kurra. So glad your daughter reached out with love. Its the closest and most delicate relationship.

I am up too. This Night shift thread saved my life so I am glad you dont always do exactly what the psych says. @Mazarita

Re: Night Shift

hi @Mazarita and @Appleblossom

nothing new really here, just over being a misery guts with my cold, wondering where to now

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom, that's amazing to hear. I'm grateful you are still here. As you know, I'm not always the most obedient of 'patients'. Time spent here in the night has certainly been meaningful to me over the past nine months and I can see that others enjoy it too. For the most part, I still agree with what I quoted when I started this thread, 'whatever gets you through the night is alright'.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, take it easy with the cold and maybe just let the worries about TAFE and stuff slide for a bit until you're feeling a bit better. I'm guessing that's what you mean by 'where to now'?

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita yeah im almost back to normal, dont feel like everything is closing in in me anymore

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, awesome that feeling is subsiding. I'm feeling a lot better for getting out of the flat into the outside world about once a day at the moment. Hoping I can keep it up. I have a history of flying up and down again (and back inside my flat for days, weeks, months). So trying for a more balanced approach of slowly building up the activities so that changes are more sustainable as a regular thing hopefully.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita yeah i was trying to keep up a routine if social stuff, but i haven't managed it. partly why i hate commiting to study etc

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, yeah, the only thing that works for me is to keep starting again when I fall down (usually after a bit of a wallow for a while). I get it about being shaky about commitments. I'm barely reliable to myself let alone outside commitments. Works better for me if things are 'optional'. I've crashed out of about 50 jobs in my life (I'm in my 50s). But it sounds like you have a fairly active interest in computers?
