Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Decadian, anniversaries connecting us to major loss is so hard. How was mother's day for you? It pulls me under for a while, numbed by the flu this year. 5yrs since my teenage girl Jo left us. I'm not the same person, its changed me at a core level & in that sense i guess we never get over it. I'm inspired by your resolve to bring some good out of it. I've wanted to campaign for asthma awareness but still find it a hard place to go. You're amazing.

Hi @Former-Member and @Decadian

I haven't any words for your loss of family, my heart goes out to you. This month is 5 years since my brother assed away.

Hi @Former-Member

Most of these ones I have been posting are working over imported photos with a virtual painting app on my iPad.

I do paint, and the real paintings do take time and headspace. Playing with this app is a good distraction, keeps my painting skills active, and a way of sharing the joy of art quite easily.

I'm glad they make you smile ❤️

Hi @plasmo

Your jokes make me smile. You have a fantastic dry sense of humour.

Re: Night Shift

Being a MI forum i can say the following as i think its 'blackdog' talking
Sometimes i feel/think people are very angry with me. Even when they just ignore me. Sometimes i even feel left out here (punished). Know its not rational. Some say I'm paranoid, i say I'm insecure. Working on this in therapy.
Just sharing 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Well it looks like sleep is not coming to me again tonight. Just read through the last couple of pages and it's wonderful to see you all supporting each other in the losses you have experienced. There is another thread called Bereavement that some of you might like to join in on where others of us have shared some of our experiences.

@Former-Member there may be multiple reasons why you don't always get an immediate response in these forums. Could be something else going on for the other person, could be a technology issue or just timing. I used to get a bit upset about it too but I don't take it personally any more.

Re: Night Shift

It's good to have you with us @Former-Member.

That's a good thing to be working on in therapy ❤️

How was your day ?

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, I get similar kinds of thoughts and feelings to what you describe, have had them since I was a very young child. I used to sit (mostly alone) in the playground at playtime and lunchtime thinking every other kid was staring at me thinking, how pathetic that she has to sit alone. Or else I'd hide behind bushes or down the sides of buildings to avoid having to be stared at like that. This has been part of my mental illness over time. Have learned a lot over the years about not letting these paranoid kinds of thoughts and feelings get the better of me so much but still fall victim fairly regularly. Usually catch the thoughts pretty fast though, recognise them for the usually distorted thinking they represent, and move on. Hope your therapist comes up with some good tools and techniques to help you with this. I am really glad you are here.
