Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member, how are you travelling this night?

@Faith-and-Hope, thanks and you're welcome.

@Decadian, ah yes, the lovely way soup richens in flavour over a day. Sorry you experience the pain in your spine. Many of us here have days when 'we can't get over ourselves'. It's hard to get past pain sometimes and I think it's great that you find this forum useful to getting through the days with it. Bath time sounds frustrating but I'm glad it eased your back nonetheless. Hope the plumber will be able to fix the problem quick smart.

Thinking too of @PeppiPatty, @Shaz51 and others, sending friendly middle of the night greetings for you to find in the morning.

I havent slept much.. so decided to get up and try and do some work... but havent got far with that either.. just no concentration and no motivation and feeling so zapped and low. im not sure what to do at the moment. just getting through each day really.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Former-Member. Yes the meetup was worth the effort and struggle with anxiety. This is what the psychologist is trying to demonstrate to me I think in giving me the various bits of 'homework' I have this time around: that it's most often the worry before and after events that is what we need to work on, more than what we actually have to face at the time. Just getting through each day is pretty much what it's all about for many of us, I think. You are another of the amazons I was thinking about earlier, getting through all you do and handling your responsibilities. I know you feel shaky with it. But, many of us have said it before: in the face of adversity, what we see is your strength.

Re: Night Shift

I'm in that space too at the moment @Former-Member.

My daughter really needed to get a good night's sleep and some serious catch-up work done across the weekend, because her schooling is now in jeopardy, again, in her final year, and it just hasn't happened. She is up through the night again with stomach pains, and I can't sleep now either.

I'm running out of fingers to stick in the holes of our leaking dam.

It's going to be another day of just meeting the basics of food on the table, and getting people where they need to be. One foot after the other.

Re: Night Shift

Hmmm, it's 5.30am. I have to be up at 7am to attempt to get to a 2 hour cooking class this morning. Not sleepy. What to do.

Re: Night Shift

Gorgeous candle image for @eth 😊 I just saw it. It takes a little while for the mages to come through.

Did you get the blue bird I posted for you the other day @Former-Member ?

Did you get your frangipani @Mazarita ?

Did you say you do the adult colouring in books @Mazarita ? Maybe pay some music and just rest a bit ❤️

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope, yes, I think I need to stay awake at this point. Reading the ABC news website at the moment. I do have adult coloring books but haven't done them for a while and I think they might make me sleepy now. Some low level music could be good but don't want to wake partner in next room. If I don't make it to this class today I'll probably cancel the whole five week course as I already missed last week. It's run by a local community mental health organisation. I'm poor on basic domestic life skills at age 53, so this is meant to help improve on my main block in that area, cooking. Morning appointments are often difficult. I'm still hit and miss on whether I make them due mainly to sleep disturbance. But things are better than where I was for a long time up until last year, when I was pretty much living dusk until dawn most of the time.

p.s. yes, I got the lovely frangipani image you sent through recently. Thank you!

Re: Night Shift

❤️ I hope you make it to the cooking class this morning @Mazarita. It would be a shame to miss the whole block of lessons, and I'm sure you would benefit from them

And cooking is theraputic - added bonus 😊

And congrats for achieving better sleep patterns progressively 😊

(I'm actually correcting spelling as much as I am typing here .... Spellcheck and I are having a running battle !!)

You're a year older than I am 😊

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope, you are winning the spellcheck battle as I see no errors. 🙂 I think @eth and I will be the same age number from today until my birthday in a few months. There are quite a few of us around this age on the forum. I still feel very young at heart though (except when really down in the dumps and then the reverse is the case).
