Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

@PeppiPatty

We do a bit of limited acting .. interpreting from scripts ..

The boy I met this morning on the train opened his study notes from his acting course. Coincidences coincidences. Just a lovely chat from 8-9 ... livened up his day and mine.

Re: Night Shift

Hi dearest @Appleblossom,

Yes i do the same, i have different music for different times, i find that i mostly like sad music, their is somethign that draws me in, i don't know why, but i gravitate towards it.

Oh gosh i though i was the only one who liked harps, it is not the "cool" thing for people my age to be into, but if i like something i go with it. 🙂

if you would like to listen to enigma here it is, one of their more popular songs, they are a German band (husband and wife), how to describe it, well very religious overtones with sentual sexual undertones, if that makes any sense. Maybe just listen to it, you will se what i mean.

here it is

Re: Night Shift

How beautiful @Jacques your description made total sense.

Religious and sensual is good, even the pope is starting to agree!! Sexuality needs to be accepted as an essential part of being human. The failure to do that is why the church got itself in its current mess. I was experimental when i was young .. and I do not regret it or feel guilty ... it was the end of the hippy era ... but I always believed in love ... a crazy idealist ... and also very nun-like ... having 2 phases of celibacy ... the most recent 15 years ... both are important sides to my personality.

Re: Night Shift

Thank you @Appleblossom & @PeppiPatty

@Jacques you have such a kind heart - thank you for your reply!

He is vegan too & doesn't want me to change that - he just seemed to have a problem with HOW I was describing WHY I am a vegan... anyhow... I've slept - I feel a lot better (although mornings are usually a lot easier lately.... at midday I seem to go downhill or at least by late afternoon...)

I'm having a rest day today - I did yoga 3 days in a row - I will go to hot vinyasa yoga tomorrow & I will plan to go for a run on Wednesday *fingers crossed* Thankfully, I have an appointment with my psychologist in Brisbane on Thursday - I really feel I need to talk with a caring health professional! Yes, @Jacques - unwanted offers to help are NOT good! I was there to buy kombocha NOT hokus pokus therapy for mental ill health!

Thank you all for your support!

I'm hoping @Mazarita is having a wonderful holiday!

I like hearing about your & your son's musical & acting adventures @Appleblossom! I've mentioned before I wanted to be an actress, so I enjoyed drama & musicals during high school - I also did drama lessons outside of school - did levels for some London academy - ECT has erased the name of it from my head though... Now I would hate to act again - although I would probably be a lot better at it with all my painful life experiences - I got A's at school & I did Film & TV acting lessons after school - I never auditioned due to the eating disorder demons telling me I needed to lose more weight first - funny I am now back to the weight I was when I was 20 - 21... running & good nutrition.... Anyhow, I'm rambling...

Hope everyone has an 'okay' day!

Namaste,

A

Hi @Former-Member,

I am so glad you slept and are feeling better, yes i just wanted to let you know i have the same problem, my mood is usually great of a morning and seems to slide throughout the day, i get so depressed of a night, i think it is part of MI, we i know it is part of my bipolar, mum says i can change mood literally within minutes, it can get really scary.

Anna please follow your belief's, you have your own reasons for why you are vegan, keep them close, that make you who you are, and that is so important.

hugs, Namaste

Jacques

Re: Night Shift

I am so glad you liked it @Appleblossom, many people find it too confronting, or find it awkward with the sexual undertones. i made the mistake of letting my very religious cousin listen to it, she told me it was disgusting and i should be ashamed of myself.

I don't know why people find sex so uncomfortable to talk about, i am so glad you feel no shame, love and sex is an integral part of a being, i have no one to talk about it, my parents where very conservative in that respect, i have had it drummed into me for so long that sex is dirty.

as you know i have never had sex or been in love, so i am not sure what they are like, but i do think that sex and love it the most wonderful thing you can share with another human being.

Maybe i am just weird i don't know, but i am still so shocked at how people are treated in relationships, if you love someone i thought that also included respect and care. so many relationships seem to go toxic, i just don't understand it.

Maybe because i have never experianced it.

I am so glad that you are so comfortable with your sexuality, i aspire to be like you, what a wonderful out look on such a delicate subject.

Thank you @Appleblossom. I do hope you seek out the Enigma albums, they are very peaceful and thye help me through some really dark times.

Take care my friend

Jacques

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Jacques...

Thanks 🙂

I planned to do nothing today, but I've been doing stuff - laundry, cleaning, tired room, internet - Facebook, browsing, here... I've finally laid down & I'm going to finish reading The Lincoln Lawyer - oh wait! I better put the sheets on the line first! So much for my great plan for a 'nothing day'!

Hope your day is going okay...

Namaste,

A

Re: Night Shift

I actually dont put much music on ... one day i will have more control of my airwaves .. atm ... I am still working with creative and participatory music ... that is my way as a parent ... to ensure that my son got some good experiences in life ... nothing like a LIVE performance.

I bought some Tannoy studio monitors a year ago ... still havent wired them up yet ... I wanted one at his end and one at my end of the house ... little disagreement ... he said it was not posssible ... I dont waste any time arguing ... I dont care about piped music more than my relationships ... when I get around to it .. or can get son involved .. he does have to get a bit technical ... I will have a wow of a time ... I am very very patient.

Thanks @Former-Member I dont mean to be overly ranting or boasting or obssessive .. it is just my life .. my way of being productive and creative and encouraging my children to be the same.

@Jacques The film I saw yesterday called "Solomon and Gaenor" brought out some of the destructive attitudes of religion and sexuality in a very tragic love story ...

I think my openness about sex started in one orphanage ... where we had mixed showering facilities .. So every day I say boys and girls naked.... I was 8 ... there was absolutely nothing sexual about it ... it was often cold and agressive people pushing us through and checking us for tinea etc ...but I just didnt swallow everything I was told about it later ... I was quietly analytical about it .. I see mostly that people are human first and gendered (or variously sexed LTBGI) second ... common humanity is the unifying idea for me.

I also strangely didnt buy into gendered roles in our society ... I am a bit androgynist ... the scientist is in me and i was experimental when I was young ... it was just the way the world around me was ... I was committed to my marriage though.

The pope has just put out a paper called Amoris Laetitia ... "The Joy of Love" to try and redress some of the damage that superstitious and fear about sex in the church has done in people's lives. I am not proselytising but it is in the news this week .. At least the RC church should stop rejecting divorced, re-married and singles .. and start facing up to the level of difficulty that families face in todays society.

I was just drenched ... as a baby.. without my permission in typical RC style .. it has influenced me hugely, as some nuns were the kindest people I ever met, but I am probably a bit of a thorn in the sides of conservative church members.

The promiscuity model of the 60s probably isnt the best either ... as there are a lot of tragic fallouts from that experiment .. but I never believed sex was dirty. as a human race we are evolving (I hope) .. discussion about all relevant issues are the best way to forge a civilised society.
