Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Terry, that's quite a breakfast. I'm feeling okay too, might get into some humble but yummy vita brits soon. I do have stuff on today and I have good ongoing support. Work is out of the question as I am still too dysfunctional to get there consistently but I am slowly moving towards volunteering sometime this year. Good luck with writing your articles today.

Re: Night Shift

Yes @Terry, i have figured that out :), it sounds like you do many things at once, very good at multi tasking.

I have never left Australia, even though i sometimes wish i could move back to where my father comes from. my favourite Australian Artists are Eric Heffernan and pro hart, i know pro hart is abstract, but he was a big supporter of Motor Neurone Disease which is what my father died of.

You sound very learned in Art, i need to learn more, all i know is when i look at a peice of art, i either like it or i don't, i like landscapes and nudes, mainly from the 16th century, and roman times. maybe i am old school with art, the new stuff does not interest me so much.

Today i have to do some computer work for mums cousin and i am rebuilding one of my computers, so pretty busy.

i am well, i feel ok, so i will go with it, i don't feel ok often so i enjoy it while it lasts 😄

@Jacques, wow, i just had a look at eric heffernan's stuff and some of it is very good. do a quick search on ron mueck - even if you don't know anything about art you will find his stuff fascinating. and have a look at the work of a painter like corot (off the top of my head) - such beautiful, beautiful work - what a wonderful world! god bless! have you finished your croissant yet? :0

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita hi maz, i wouldn't worry about work too much - one needs it to 'keep sane' but it's often denied us. i just take it one day at a time. i have hit-the-wall a couple of times when i have needed work and have suddenly had a horrible feeling of static stagnation and directionless impetus. i started trying to help other people with mental illnesses at that point - that's turned out to be quite good work - people ring me up and i let them talk or give them a little advice or take them out for the day. it took a little while to build the work up (and sometimes you have to be HIGHLY responsible if someone is in crisis) but i enjoy it - and it has meaning. our lot is (arguably) so lousy that helping other people with mental illnesses is often the only type of work that has real meaning for me. but i'm also editing a christian book at the moment, and i'm really enjoying that, because i have deadlines i have to stick too, and it's work i'm good at, and the book is tremendously inspiring.

it's not too darned hot here today and the place isn't on fire or flooded and no sink holes have appeared so far, no tornadoes - so far, so good 😞 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita no worries, you don't have to reply to all my messages. i'm quite capable of talking to myself anyway. I saw such a cute man yesterday and he saw me! i feel quite 'chuffed' as the english would say!

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita

Thanks for the morning hello and hello to you :0)

My husband and me are good. We spoke about his turn......it's all good. We both just need to slow down and my immune system is low.....constant thrush .....exhaustion....so Ille go to the supermarket and start taking garlic iol tablets two every two hours today, a friend told me a natropath recommended that to her so, Ille try it out.

Please don't worry too much about your sleeping MAritza. YOu have dealt with so much in the last 6 months and made so many changes. Remember what the Psychologist has said about your addictions. The positives far outweigh the troubles you feel you have.

It's so easy to push it all away from your mind when you feel that...day long sensetive feelings. Would you want to be where you were even one year ago?

The great news....@Jacques will love this.....Arlo is now got his vaccination, his hears are healthy, he has no fleas ( constant worry....I spilt half of his last flea stuff all over my hands) he is HEALTHY and has no problems except wanting to eat everything in the house....last night, he took my bowl of spiaral pasta salad and ate all the olives I left !!

I've been reading cute @Terry message. I'm a bit too tired to contact her but hello @Terry. Boredom is a funny thing.......I dont think I've ever been bored.oh yes I have. I found a post on why America is called America....I must tell you that ...just for some mindless information......lol

I better have a little sleep before the man gets up with Arlo.......Nice saying hi to you all....

Anne 🐵

Re: Night Shift

@Terry,

I am responding to your posts but I go slower with things, especially in the morning after only 90 minutes sleep, hehe. Hope you don't mind me giving you a tip on forum etiquette: it's best to only post one or two messages in a discussion thread at a time. People tend to get overwhelmed when there's a lot in a row from one person. I'm interested in volunteering in the area of mental health. Taking it one step at a time towards that intention. I read before that you had volunteered in mental health and that you are editing publications. Glad that has worked out well for you. 30 degrees today where I am and humid. I'll be out in it walking around but may get a swim this afternoon, as long as there isn't a tsunami.

Good morning, @PeppiPatty, hope your day goes sweet.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita no worries. i volunteered formally in mental health for a while but found it too depressing because the system is so terrible. Promoting myself as an outreach person to the local mental health drop-in centre has worked out quite well. i have a few people that i check in on and who call me up when they need support. they often become friends and invite me places (but i never drink with them and am careful about socialising with some of them at all, especially the delicate ones [i certainly don't drink with the ones that are problem drinkers]). if i have to deal with anything really heavy (which happens) i de-brief with lifeline as i can't really necessarily afford a regular counsellor and my counselling sessions (when i have them) are for ME working out MY problems, not unloading about work. obviously, i totally lack 'organisation' and routine at this point and really should try to get that back now/this year. it is a bit difficult - work is piece-meal and freelance and sometimes 'spontaneous' but i get through each day. getting my books out this year would be a good idea. i'm actually expecting them to make a 'small splash' and I AM going to enter one of them in the pulitzer - just in case! x 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Morning everyone (that feels odd saying, given this is the 'night shift' thread) Just wanted to let you know there's a live discussion taking place here today from 10am (now) until 4pm AEDT.

It's called Career Chat, which we are now running every Friday, thanks to Ostara Australia. @Terry I saw you posted somewhere about jobs etc, so I thought I'd mention it.

You can find the discussion here
