Memory is shot to bits

Memory is shot to bits

Hi everyone

I was wondering if others had experienced the above ... since my diagnosis my memory is awful. I cannot remember the past well at all. It is making life extremely difficult with study etc.

I don't believe my medications are the problems here but think that when I my mind finally broke it left it fractured and has never fully recovered.

Has anyone else exprienced this?

@patrickT Hi patrickT thanks for your reply and what you say definately nails a good part of how I am feeling. Mine has gone on for years tho ... it has definately improved no doubt but there are some days where I can remember things that happen but the next day I remember that I have fogotten things but cannot remember what. It is like my mind is protecting itself. Does that make sense?

Re: Memory is shot to bits

@Bunniekins. I know what you mean. Last year my memory suffered the worse. I had a bad memory for a few years but last year I didn't just forget a word here or there. I forgot the main words in most sentences. Hard when you are trying to explain that you can't find your bag - when you can't remember the word bag. My gp and I put it down to new sleeping meds that I had been prescribed by my psychiatrist. 6 months later we found out the real reason - I'd suffered a stroke back then.
My memory has improved over this time. Although when my psychiatrist put me back on those sleepers again this year - against my will - I couldn't spell 'the'. Seriously. I was so distressed that day.
So always good to check with your gp and medication side effects check list

@utopia Thanks utopia for your valuable input. Yes when I was first diagnosed with a psychosis I couldn't find words either ... I couldn't put simple sentences together. I cannot imagine what it would be like not being able to write the word 'the' it must have been so stressfulif not frightening for you.

I am so sorry that you had suffered a stroke, on top of everything else, ... how terrible ... and am happy things are improving for you.

I did say to my psychiatrist that I had lost time ... a substantial period of time and even today it is screwy. I will be seeing him again soon so will mention my lack of memory again and see what he says ... honestly sometimes I feel brain damaged if you know what I mean.
