People who attempt to take their own lives provide valuable lessons for suicide prevention.
Hi everyone,
Tomorrow, 10 September, is Suicide Prevention Day. To mark the occasion we wanted to share this important research by SANE Australia and the University of New England, which explores the experiences for people who have attempted, and what we can learn from them to save lives now and in the future.
The top 5 lessons were:
- Reduce the stigma around suicide
- Expressing suicidal thoughts is not just attention seeking
- Suicide is not a selfish act
- Professional support is crucial
- People who attempt suicide are resilient

*Please note: Although there is no mention of methods of harm or any graphic images, it's important to be aware that the content may be triggering. There is disclosure of what circumstances brought them to a point of suicide, but then focuses on what helped them move on.
