Does anyone know what this is called?

Does anyone know what this is called?

Has anyone experienced their thoughts flipping back and forth from positive to negative about things, people, feelings, etc?
I don't know how else to describe it but I hope someone out there knows what I'm talking about.
It is happening to me all the time, so much that I find it hard to function when it's really bad. It becomes very overwhelming and it makes me feel really irritated, confused and like I don't know what my mind thinks about anything because my thoughts/opinions constantly change.

I don't know what it is called but I think I know what you mean. I feel like I have 2 opposing forces/personas/people (it is still all me, no different voices or personalities as people with DID experience) inside who think the opposite on a vaiety of topics. One is black, one is white and I can change my opininion on a topic within a sentence. It makes it difficult at times to articluate my thoughts to myself and others.

Having experienced this for many years I now see this as a chess game rather than sitting on a fence. When one side shifts, the other reacts, and so opinions are not static. I have learnt to disguise this most of the time as thinking through all the options, looking at each case scenario differently, playing devil's advocate.

It does make it hard on big topic issues though as people want one answer and don't like people who change their minds. It has created some arguments but has also helped me narrow down my thoughts on some issues.

Sorry, that became all about me. But does that sound similar to what you've experienced?

Forgot to say that i feel this about people in my life too - love or hate. I have become a bit better but as I've just told my mum not to ring me for a while, not a lot! I love her, she annoys the hell out of me!

Yes it does sound exactly the same I think. I can definitely relate. It makes me feel so distressed and it impacts decisions I make. It's so tiring and exhausting. It's like my opinion and or thoughts change in an instant. But yes it feels like it's me not another person. Yes I'm the same I feel it about people too.

Hi @Littletink_, I'm not sure if we have met before, it is nice to "meet" you. I am wondering if this sounds like a fit for what you are describing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splitting_(psychology)???

Sorry @MaryMahem I forgot to add your tag in my comment.
Hi @Phoenix_Rising it's nice to meet you too. Yeah I am pretty certain that's what I am experiencing. I just want to be sure that that's what it is because it's been driving me crazy I am so mentally tired all the time. I get confused as to whether it's my mood fluctuating or my thoughts/opinions fluctuating and going back and forth from positive to negative. But I think it's the splitting that actually has the effect on my mood causing it to go up and down.

@Littletink_ I think this decribes somthing simaliar to how I feel before I get really down. I can be happy as larry then I just get a silly thought in my head and that is the trigger. I go back to happy thoughts but then the negative ones allways seem to be stronger. I hope that makes sence. I have no intention of ending my life but I it is a struggle. These thoughts come out of nowhere and are really powerfull and normaly bring me to tears

Yes it does make sense @Ant7 I'm sorry you have to go through that. I get what you mean..one negative thought for me can spin me into a deep downward spiral of depression

Re: Does anyone know what this is called?

Yes dear @Littletink_,

Our thoughts come from three sources - God, our self and the devil.

I generally have one opinion on most things, but there are times when I'm thinking positively and then I get a negative thought. Usually I see myself thinking positively, but for us Christians, any fear, worry or negative thought can open the doorway to spirit to the devil. It is called negative faith and any fear or worry and it can bring the devil in and affect your thoughtlife.

Yes fear and worry can bring the devil in.

We are told in God's word in the Bible to 'Keep our thoughts obedient to Christ.'.......'We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ' 2 Corinthians 10:5.

Moreover, 'we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.'

Concerning our thoughts,'Numerous ungodly philosophies hold people in bondage, and those spiritual “fortresses” need to be demolished. In short, Fear and worry and negative thoughts can keep us in bondage.

Also, I have been the kind of person that would live vicariously through others. ie boyfriend, parent, child. I googled vicariously and it says 'If you're living vicariously, stop it. Get out and live life for yourself. Vicariously means that you're experiencing something indirectly, like when your friend's adventure feels like your own. Vicariously is the adverb form of the word vicarious, which also involves experiencing something through another person.

Re: Does anyone know what this is called?

In a nutshell, The primary point in this section of 2 Corinthians is that we are in a spiritual warfare and the Word of God in biblical scripture tells us ''to take all our thoughts captive and make them obedient to God. '' (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Hence thinking positively and disregarding any negatives thoughts and having faith is ideally what we should do.
