The Community Garden :)

The Community Garden :)

Being outside and enjoying the beautiful plants and flowers that are about is definitely something that's keeping me going at the moment, so I thought it might be nice to grow our own garden here where we can all enjoy it.

Please add any pictures, links, chats about anything you're enjoying in your garden, have found on a walk, wish you had in your garden etc. Or just enjoy wandering around 🙂

Re: The Community Garden :)

I admire anyone who can grow their own vegies @Shaz51 @Appleblossom @Former-Member . In Melbourne maybe we could start tomato seed inside or in greenhouses now... seedling time is still a long way away. Too cold.

Some of the narcissus are out already, harbingers of Spring... and an early wattle...

Re: The Community Garden :)

I am no expert @Dimity maybe my vegies will not make it through. I put them in places where they get sun. Someone said my pumpkin would not work, but it sprouted beautifully so I keep trying ...

@Appleblossom I’m on a plant buying ban. I buy too many! I do like to repot, propagate and water though.

Ha ha @Bow

Know what thats like. Was on a ban for years, slowly doing vegies ... maybe as something for my son to see ...and eat ... but place is too small to do much.

Re: The Community Garden :)

Went to my local Market today. Was planning on picking up 2 plants. I'm starting to slowly plant out along the fence lines in my backyard. The aim being to block out the neighbours, block the fence, and provide habitat for birds and insects. Well today, I came home with 7 plants. Lol. It is so hard to only buy 2. Plants are like books. They are addictive.

I plan to plant them out tomorrow around late morning when my new puppy is asleep. Best to avoid her watching me dig holes.

I'm looking forward to seeing how all these shrubs come along by Autumn next year.

Re: The Community Garden :)

Hi @Appleblossom . Nice to see so many people here love their gardens. I’ve just moved into my first place and have started gardening! This place is all lawn. No trees, plants, not even flowers. So I have a blank canvas. I started a vegetable bed, my peas are doing well, flowering and forming pods, but my cauliflower and broccoli failed to form heads (probably I didn’t get the soil right) so I’ve pulled them out as they wouldn’t survive the summer heat, now I’m going to plant spring vegetables, plus marigolds and nasturtiums, I’m doing it all from seeds to save money. I’ve also started a native garden, I’ve planted a callistemon “Mary MacKillop” hybrid and have plans for grevillea, banksia and native grasses and flowers. Removing the well established kikuyu manually with a square shovel sure is hard work!
