Re: From Crosswords to Quizes - Brain teasers space!
Glad you had a nice shower @CheerBear
I think the first one is convicted?
2nd one clue is the first word "initially", so you take the first letter of the next words so it would be ROGUE

Re: From Crosswords to Quizes - Brain teasers space!
In that case @Former-Member, I'll leave these with you for something to think about if you'd like 🙂
16 Down: Signor, the astrological signs contain this direction (9) N _ R _ _ _ _ _ _
18 Down: Old folk tales that confuse Glen with Des (7) L _ G _ _ _ _
23 Across: Furious intensity disturbs even me, Che! (9)
27 Across: Longed for sir, indeed (7) D _ _ _ R _ _
These might take a little more brain power, but they're not impossible.
I'm going to head to bed now and cuddle with a sick little person, but I hope you can find the forum a good distraction tonight. There's almost always someone around. Nightshift, the coffee chat thread, even the good morning thread (at night) can be good places to hang out for company.

@CheerBear I'd appreciate a replay of how to do cryptics. This is really good for the mind.
@Former-Member You are doing really well. See you both later. Coffee time one...ahhhh

Re: From Crosswords to Quizes - Brain teasers space!
Good morning brain teasers ☺
Here's the (updated) guide for beginning cryptics
There is always a 'straight' clue in the clue, like a normal crossword, so I read over the clue to sort of guess what it might be. Sometimes the straight clue can be found because nothing else in the cryptic clue makes any sense.
Then I look for hint words in the clue that let me know what type of clue it might be to find the answer. For example:
* The words "Initially, start, first, capital, head, beginning" etc might suggest that the answer is either the start of a word or words in the clue.
* Seeing words like "mixed, jumbled, cofused" etc might suggest that the answer is an anagram of other word/s in the clue. For this one, I see if any word/s tally the same number of letters in the answer which can be a hint it's an anagram clue.
* Words like "together, combined, joined" might hint that you need to put words/parts of words in the clue together to make a new word.
* Words like "behind", "in front", "inside" can hint that you need to place words/ part words, in that position (behind, in front, inside etc) with other words/part words of the clue.
* Sometimes a cryptic clue can be a combination of two (or more) straight clues where the answer is the meaning of both 'clues'.
Then there are lots of other tricky/unusual ones that come up.
@Maggie and @Former-Member - hope the coffee is good this morning. This little replay above could help with all four of the latest clues.
☕😊
