Something’s not right

No support.

No support.

I have found a new psychologist as the one I was seeing only wants to see me monthly. I need more support then that. She claims to have taught me techniques to deal with my depression and anxiety but I'm currently not practicing anything because I haven't been taught. I'm getting angry and I'm not an angry person. I rang the mental health line and they said to see my psychologist who I haven't seen yet. Depression is ruining my life. I want to die. How do people survive?

Re: No support.

Hi @Former-Member, sorry to hear that you've been trying to get support but haven't found much to be helpful at the moment.

It's good that you're going to be seeing a new psychologist but I hear how annoying it is having to wait and getting the stock-standard-typically-unhelpful-helpline response.

Are you interested in trying to find some techniques to help deal with your depression and anxiety, given that your old psychologist didn't really teach you any? I'm wondering if you've heard of "thought challenging" or "doing the opposite of what you feel"... If you want some suggestions to look at before your appointment with the new psychologist, let us know.

Hi @Former-Member

I'm so sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment, and that your depression is ruining your life. I can imagine it would be confusing, exhausting and frustrating that there has been back-and-forth between your old psychologist, new psychologist and the mental health line; with no concrete strategies being offered to you - no wonder you are angry given the circumstances! It is great that you are reaching out to the forums for support at this time.

I just wanted to ask whether you are safe at the moment? I have sent you an email to check-in around this further. Please let us know whether you are safe.

Kindest,

Amour_Et_Psyché

Re: No support.

Hi @Former-Member, It totally sucks that you are struggling to find good support. I am about to start with a new psychologist - and she will be the twelth (yes, twelth!!!) one I've seen in 18 months. It is oh-so-hard to find good mental health professionals, but if you CAN find a good one it can be lifechanging in a really positive way.

I really hope the new psychologist you have found is a good fit for you. I agree that a lot of helplines tend to give stock-standard and generally totally unhelpful suggestions. The only helpline I've found actually helpful is the SANE one.
