Has anyone had any experience with Antisocial personality disorder?

Has anyone had any experience with Antisocial personality disorder?

I have recently had to seek help for my constant bad behaviour and lack of remorse. It has led to suggestions of this disorder. Has anyone had any experience?

Hi Nuckrib

Welcome to the Forums and thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. I imagine it was hard to reach out for help about your behaviour - well done for taking that step. Posting on these Forums is also a positive step and I hope you will be able to connect with others and gain some new insights. As Artauf and lisajane have mentioned, I think you’ll find people on the Forums to be supportive and understanding.

I’m curious to know who has suggested that you may have antisocial personality disorder. It’s good to remember that only a mental health professional such as a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist is qualified to make this kind of diagnosis. If you haven’t already done so, it might be helpful to talk to your doctor about what’s going on.

You say you have no remorse, but the fact that you’ve sought help and posted on the Forums suggests to me that you do want to change your behaviour. Is there something that prompted you to seek help and reach out to others?

Welcome once again and I look forward to hearing more of your story. In the meantime, please take a look around. I hope you'll find some useful insights.

A counselor suggested I go see a doctor with consideration of that. I am seeking help because I feel depressed and lonely. I want something to dull my impulsiveness, because it is has driven my core friends away, And I like having people to go out with. So I feel my need for them is self-serving and not in line with true care.

Hi @Nuckirb

Well I think this is the right place for you! Here you can connect with others - vent - talk about what you're going through and ask questions of the community, who may have gone through similar experiences.

It sounds like you want to get through the depression so you can connect with your core group of friends again. I don't think your need for them is only self serving - friendship is a two way street, so your friendship will also serve them.

You mentioned that you have driven them away because of your implusiveness - perhaps they weren't sure how to approach this with you? Have you spoken to them about what's going on for you?
