Something’s not right

How do you know if something is wrong?

How do you know if something is wrong?

How do you know? like do you have some signs or does everything just start falling appart all of a sudden. what if you think things are going really well only to be told something is wrong? I am just curious what other people think because sometimes i find it very hard to tell.

Re: How do you know if something is wrong?

Hi @Pepsimax I don't always know that is half the problem for me. often people will tell me something is wrong or i guess it depends how i am feeling. like if i am feeling really sad and depressed then i will know something is up because i dont feel good. but when i am feeling really really really good i often think everything is fine but people will tell me it isnt so it depends on my mood. as for when psychosis is involved i dont often know about that until it has been there for a while or if i tell someone and they look at me with that look and then i know something may be up. or if the voices and stuff are upsetting me then i know there is a porblem too.

Re: How do you know if something is wrong?

Hi @Eden1919

I have had a few psychotic episodes lately and most times they have been in sessions with my GP, my psych or with my psychologist.

All those times I have been told by them that I was having a psychotic episode. I was not coping, not understanding what they were saying to me, not responding to them, in my own little world and really in a bad way. It felt to me like i was frozen and not with it completely. (if that makes any sense)

Two of the times my GP has sent me to hospital with an ambulance because of my psychosis and of how unwell I was and unsafe to myself.

One time I was psychotic but i was alone and at home. I did phone Lifeline and they contacted an ambulance who did come and they took me to hospital.

For me i was very unwell mentally so I guess i can look back now and see how i was but at the time i couldn't see it.

Hope this makes sense??

@Eden1919 I live with voices and paranoia all the time. Over the years I've learned how to reality check and know what I experience may not be the same as other people. It has taken years of therapy and also my own accredited mental health training to learn what seems out of the ordinary for me. Sometimes I might ask others around me for clarification. Because I still have breakthrough symptoms (despite medication), I reality check at least several times a day.

Other times, when I am acutely unwell, I have absolutely no idea that I am experiencing is a psychotic episode. In times like that, I rely on others for support and guidance and, in some cases, treatment in hospital.

Thanks @Queenie and @BlueBay and @Pepsimax it makes sense and i am the same most of the time i dont notice that it is as intense as it is. mine normally follows my mood though so if i am in a good mood i get good voices/things happening and if i am in a bad mood i get really paranoid and get bad voices and stuff. if i am in a normal mood i get nothing and all that stuff goes away. i think it is hard though because when i am in a bad mood i may ask for help with it because the voices and things get scary and so i dont cope with that but when i am a really good mood i dont want to voices and stuff happening to stop because it all feels magical and i feel close to them and everything feels right but then people around me will say i am not doing well and it makes me upset because they try to get the good things to leave. it is hard to explain but do any of you guys ever not want voices or certain experiences to go away?

for example i once thought i had magical powers and i was talking to angels and i felt really really amazingly good and i didnt want that to stop but everyone said i was really unwell.

Also does your family know about your mental health issues and do they comment on it?

yes my family know about my mental health issues. Some of them pass negative judgement, others are more supportive.
