looking for work need help!

looking for work need help!

So I haven't worked in over ten years, I'm applying for lots but I'm not really hearing back (not really surprised). I am a trained jeweller but not looking for work as a jeweller as it's way too competitive. My experience otherwise is on the phone as a telephone market researcher.
My question is, what sort of work can I get without references and such a large gap in my work history. I am willing to do anything, things are pretty dire.

Any suggestions will be most welcome!

Hello @OBSQR

That is great that you are working on applying for jobs, it is ertainly tough getting work and can take a long time, so hang in there and keep applying. I am not sure what kind of work, but there is always hospitality and retail that are generally quite understanding of what you have been doing the past 10 years. You might want to also get some assistance through a Job Support Agency and they can help you find suitable work?

There is Ostara and Job Access which should be able to asist you:

JobAccess helps people with disability, employers, service providers and the community to access information about services, financial assistance and workplace solutions. Re: looking for work need help!

Hi @OBSQR .. I have seen resumes where people claim have been self employed for well nearly a decade.. also know people who have used friends as referees.
PS I had some terrible career advice from govt body was made to see about 10yrs ago. Could not have been worse. They knocked every idea I had down and said I was too old at time for a career change I was around 44 haha. I think the person I saw had major life issues themselves. That was CRS if it still exists. Anyway that was my experience. I hope you have a more positive one if you get involved with government employment assistance agencies

Aged care is desperate for people and sometimes they like those who are more mature. You just need a certificate three in aged care and I think it is about six months and there is a four week placement. I work permanent part time and the work is so flexible. I love looking after the oldies as they are so vulnerable and grateful.

It can be stressful in the morning shift, but evening (I finish at 10pm) is so quiet as you are getting them off to bed and there are not many people around.. Some people like nght shift but not for me as I think it would disrupt the sleep patterns too much. .

@Ruthie, sounds like a great job. I bet it's very rewarding. I would love listening to the stories from the experienced.
