I'm getting the sense that we are all animal lovers here (or at least try to be lol)
I once went horse riding on a camp i went to a few years ago in regional NSW. The family that ran were really rich because of the holiday camp they were running. One of the activities was horse riding/trekking through the bush. I think I must've inherited some genes from my mum because she used to ride horses being from regional victoria and all. She fell off one though and she buggered her back so she could never ride again. Shame really. I remember the horse I got on this particular camp was the 'roudy' one because he kept going off course and doing that thing that horses do when they stand on their hind legs when they get startled (I'm cleraly not down with the jargon).
Anyway, I remember we had to walk around the course with them for us to get used to them and approach them etc. He seemed fine at first. Until I was on him and we were just standing there. He started to wonder off lol. So I had to bring him back to the circle. It was strange because it seemed like he liked me as he wasn't misbehaving.
I wonder if there is any truth to that idea that horses and the riders (in fact any animal and its owner) develop a rapport/respect for one another. I noticed it in my dog when he used to jump up and bark at something I'd just yell out his name and he would stop and come and sit near me. Humans and animals have been relying on one another for centuries now so I guess it's probably part natural too?
Anyway, just felt like sharing my horse story lol. I'd love to do that again though. It'd be like being on Game of Thrones or something haha. Though I remember being super paranoid about snakes on the trek... I was on edge that day needless to say.
