Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

Hi all 🙂 Random out of context post to reply to a question sorry!

Hey @Former-Member 🙂 Would love to be and have a study buddy! My study is a pathway course to social work if I wanted, that could also be used for a whole lot of different things (community services of all kinds, social policy, research etc.). I was verrrry close to finishing it and just have a practical component (with the coursework that accompanies it) left. It presents challenges in terms of working around the littles and not having the same level of support with them (emergency pick ups/looking after sickies etc.) that I used to have, but I'll see how we go 🙂 C-link are a few weeks off being on my back again about it all too so I'm planning on letting them know it isn't going to be cruisey and seeing what is out there that may support us all to adjust and get through it. I want that black hat 5-HT 😄

When is study back for you?

How did you get on with your sewing the other night also?

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

*frig just realised I've forgotten my antibiotics for a whole week*

Does anyone else do that..... forgetting their meds for a week or so?

@CheerBear YAY study buddy!

Yeah, I get how hard it would be to fit it all in with the LF and life and the rest and pracs can be very tricky to fit in. I think when you're doing subjects you love it can be a bit easier to fit it all in. I know for me I really struggle with having the energy to do it as often as I should, but I'm hoping that different meds and more exercise might make it a bit easier this year.

Social work is a super interesting field and super flexible too! And I love that it can be MH related if that's an area you want to go into. I've got a few aquantiances who work as social workers and they love their jobs. My public health degree has a lot of similarities to social work (I think)?

Centrelink is going to be on my back in 5 days to be exact. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I wish I could qualify for DSP, but I just don't fit the criteria. I think I'm going to have to go back to work this year, I just can't keep asking my parents to pay for all my health care bills anymore. WIth no health care card my health care bills come to 20k!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard rumours there is a social worker at centrelink that can help you navigage things?

Study never really took a break. Technically I'm on break from Christmas to today, then back to it and exams in 3 weeks. So I'm drowning in uni work right now.

I wish there was greater support for those studying later in life. It's much harder than people imagine financially.

Sewing is going okay, but I've decided to re-do a lot of it. I wasn't happy with it. But here's what he looks like so far. (Cutting out is hard!)

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

Oh no re the antibiotics @Former-Member! I'm terrible at remembering meds which is part of the reason why any med that needs taking daily (most of them) don't work for me.

C-link and that system can be lots of words I won't say here :S I have found the social workers so SO helpful in the past. A couple of times I have well and truly melted down to them and they've worked with that. Face to face seems much better for me, but they're available on the phone also if that would help you more.

I think there would definitely be some crossover in your degree. I did a public health subject in mine which is all about social science stuff (very little pure science thankfully for me!) which makes it have bits of health, psych, counselling, research methods, social theory and policy etc.

What would you like to do (if there were no barriers) with your degree?

Those bills 😮 !

Look I g forward to seeing the pic!

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

Hey @Former-Member and @CheerBear
I got a notification on this thread and checked it out. Realised you were talking about centrelink and study etc.

Got some questions in relation to that. In order for centrelink to be able to pay you job search allowance or whatever it is, they can only do that when they find out you are unemployed right? So if i avoid telling them does that mean i dont have to worry about centrelink appointments and all that. Because that is something that will defs make my mental health worse off.
I am happy where i am atm because i can hunt for work while living at home.
My folks dont mind helping me out at this point, its simply a case of me getting things together and looking around.
I feel like it's not going to help me when i visit centrelink. At all.
But @Former-Member you mentioned the fact that they have a social worker there and maybe that might help i dunno?
Having said all that, i am heading to my grandparents tomorrow and when i am down there i can job search and look for stuff. I've found 2 things i want to apply for (casual) and that is good.
Sorry i am just a bit worried and also really do not want to go inside centrelink ever again.
Thanks for any help

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

Hey @MDT. I'm not sure I can answer that question about centerline but I am fairly sure that if you're receiving any centrelink payments you need to let them know if your circumstances change (like if you finish study). They have ways of finding out everything and in my experience you are way better off being upfront than facing the consequences later.

You can definitely speak with a social worker if you think something will impact your mental health. They should be able to point you in the right direction 🙂

Best of luck!

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

Nah I'm not receiving anything atm @CheerBear because I hit the maximum for the full time allowance (end of 2016 actually). Since then I been living off very little because all my other stuff is paid for by my folks.
I have no debts (except HECS) to centrelink, the only debt i ever had was paid to them when i got asked (because they paid me a bit past my 'finish' day even though i had not finished.
When you say social worker, are you talking about one that goes through centrelink? or someone entirely separate from centrelink?

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

There are social workers at c-link @MDT. You can call or go in to find out when and make an appointment or call to speak with one too.

@Former-Member LOVE the woolly mammoth! He's going to be so cool!!!

Re: Anyone feel like chatting?

makes sense @CheerBear
Thanks 🙂
