Just me.

Just me.

I was looking for a place to talk with others about my experience and I found these forums. So, hi.

My name is Emilia and I'm 21 years old. I'm sure I've had depression for a long time, but I was only diagnosed with severe clinical depression last year.

I don't have many friends and I feel pretty isolated. I still live at home and I'm currently on curfew. I have strict parents who rarely let me out at night, and if I want to stay overnight somewhere or go on a short holiday I have to ask permission and divulge details. I've recently gotten a job which I'm happy about bit I doubt I'll ever have ,y own place or go to the places I ever really want to go.

Many days I often feel that there's an anchor dragging my body everywhere instead of actually doing things. I'm not very close to my family and I tend not to tell my mother about my illness, because whenever I say I feel tired or sad she likes to turn it into a competition.

I also have anxiety and often get anxious about my future, or other things and I often have panic attacks during the night.

So that's my story. I have a story about what may have triggered the intense low period but I don't have time right now to tell it. I hope to contribute more around here and makes some new friends.

Hi @emiveritas,

Welcome to the SANE Forums!

It sounds like you have been having a difficult time living with depression and anxiety and the pressures of living at home with strict parents.

Thank you for sharing your story and hopefully you will find the forums a great way to connect with others. I look forward to 'seeing' you around the forums more in the future.

All the best,

Rockpool

Hi @emiveritas,

glad you've found us here. Its a supportive site full of people who really 'get it' when it comes to living with mental illness, even though each of us have our own unique story and circumstances. Living within such strict guidelines as an adult must be difficult. Perhaps your new job will open some avenues for friendships and some opportunity to feel ... perhaps a bit more independent and capable of managing. But it is hard at times too. The heavy feeling of depression that you describe i can so understand. I imagine that i'm trying to drag a ball and chain around and there are days it seems to get bigger and bigger. so hard tokeep going!

I'm glad to 'meet' you and hope you'll keep posting,

LJ
