The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Thanks @Phoenix_Rising, would love to. I do yoga at home sometimes with one of those DVD's that you just follow. Not that good at it however!!

Re: The great yoga adventure

@Former-Member I didn't know you were around during the day. I'm super glad you are going to join the great yoga adventure, although I'm not promising cake EVERY week, you know.

@Former-Member I'm super excited that you are going to join us. I have been messing around yoga-ing at home for years using DVDs and youtube videos. I only started going to classes a couple of months ago. Our group is a mix of people who have been going to classes for years and others like @TheVorticon who is adament he is never ever setting foot in a real yoga class.

I love the cake @Phoenix_Rising! And it is near the water too - perfect for this Little Mermaid!

Re: The great yoga adventure

I did lots of Bridge poses on my yoga retreat @Phoenix_Rising

Maybe this yoga group is far less strange than the retreat was (in a good way)...

It's just that I haven't done a retreat of any kind in over 22 years, & I had never done a yoga retreat before. So it took some getting used to...

Good to see you back @Adge, can't wait for all the details of your yoga retreat. Hope you feel a little better 🙂

Wow - thanks for the cake @Phoenix_Rising. I may have to share it as it's a bit too much for me alone. Perhaps 2000 or so people in Forumland would like a piece. Who knows - we may get some more yoga converts. You must have been very busy baking, that's for sure.

I love your choice of video and yes, it was me who suggested the name. If only Prince Charming would come along and wake us or Princess Charming which ever you prefer. I tend to start with that pose before class starts and we always end it that way too. I like to put a bolster or pillow under my knees.

I think everyone in Forumland could manage the Sleeping Beauty Pose.

Thanks for cheering us on @Former-Member. Reckon you might join the group this week?

I am wanting more details from @Adge too about her yoga retreat. Bet they didn't offer Bridge cake or baby goats though.

Good on @Former-Member for giving yoga here a go. I'm sure you will love it. And looks like @Former-Member is interested.

My Yin class this afternoon focussed on pressure points. We lay down with the block and bolster under different parts of the body. It was a bit uncomfortable at times. I hope my body doesn't complain about it tomorrow.

Hi @Former-Member, Hi @soul

I'm utterly exhausted can barely keep my eyes open. I'm hoping for a good night's sleep, in my own bed...

It was freezing cold out there at night, I was given a converted shed (or gazebo) to sleep in - I had privacy, that was nice.

The shed had no insulation & no heating, there was no electricity & no lights in it.

The toilets & bathroom were quite a walk away from me. Which is (or can be) a major issue for someone who has bowel issues (me), from 3 major bowel surgeries.

Those in "couples accommodation" & those in the main house (building) fared far better - they had their own toilet & a bathroom right there, & plenty of constant heating. With a wood fire, & electric heaters.

That was everyone else (apart from me), 16 people - except one person, who chose to sleep in a tent (to save money on costs).

I managed very well I thought, despite not having "roughed it" like that in about 20 years...

It was really lovely overall, I thorougly enjoyed it - after getting used to the "rustic" accommodation, & initial obstacles.

Sorry, I'm too tired to think of anything else to write now. I'll try & give more details & interesting stuff, when I'm much more awake...

The food was so yummy (all vegetarian) - wow I could even begin to put some of my much needed lost weight back on (on that diet). I didn't have enough time there to do that though...

I'm very under-weight, & have not been able to get back into my healthy weight-range, since my bowel surgeries.

Sounds like you need a good rest @Adge. I thought you may have come away invigorated but that spartan living may have taken its toll. I always take a while to get used to sleeping somewhere else and for you to be cold and have to walk a distance to the bathroom must have made you uncomfortable.

Glad you due enjoy the food and saw some benefit in going.

Sleep well and tell us more about it tomorrow.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I was a dreamer yesterday, were you? Yes, I've decided that @TheVorticon's name for the pose is the best fit for me, though I can well imagine that others super like the idea of being Sleeping Beauty.

Either way, hands up who did the easiest yoga pose in the world either yesterday or today? I plan to be a dreamer when I go to bed tonight. That's what I did last night and I have to say, it super helped with some big feelings I was struggling with. To be honest, I was struggling so super badly, I almost didn't even manage to do this easiest of poses. I have @TheVorticon to thank for motivating me by reminding me about it out on the ocean. When I was lying in bed it almost seemed like too much effort to find the youtube link to the video on my phone. However I told myself "seriously Phoenix_Rising? You can't find one little youtube link???" So I did and I...er...dreamer-ed and I felt much better for doing so.

I wonder who else has been a dreamer or Sleeping Beauty yet this week.

Happy yoga-ing

Re: The great yoga adventure

Got to my yoga class nice and early so I could lay down on my mat, bolster under my knees and be a sleeping beauty. I did actually nod off as when I heard the instructor's voice and opened my eyes, there were five other people around me whose presence I had not earlier been aware of.

We worked on our hips and hamstrings in particular this afternoon. We did heaps of Downwqrd Dogs (awwww - wouldn't it have been lovely to do a dog giveaway that week? 🐶 @Phoenix_Rising) Also a few Warriors, Child's Pose and Pigeon. We don't seem to do many Trees.

I'm sure everyone in Forumland did the Pose of the Week even though they didn't realise it.

Do you practise yoga?

No.

Do you lay on your back, arms by your side, close your eyes and breathe?

Yes.

Well, then you do practise yoga. Ha ha.
