Are you having issues with notifications?

Hi there,

I started this thread to capture the feedback that seems to be floating around in different places ( @Mazarita & @Zoe7 thanks for prompting this )

If you're having problems with notifications, please let me know the following:

1) Which notifications are you not receiving (ie: @mentions , subscription updates etc)

2) What are your current notification settings (eg: receive instantly, daily digest, weekly & which notifications have you chosen to receive as stated in your settings) You can find this through your settings in your profile.

3) Are you getting these missing notifications on your notifications page (the bell at the top right)?

4) Are there any patterns to the ones you're missing (eg: all the same type of notification, certain time of day, notifications through a particular member, notifications missing from a certain part of the forum)

What we are looking for is a way to replicate the issue. That's how we figure out what's going on - so please gather as much information as possible.

I'm having an issue with some email notifications for mentions not coming through.

I don't subscribe to any threads, I receive the daily digest and notifications for mentions via email. All other settings are for notifications through the notification page, which seem to be working fine for me.

I've noticed that often I will only receive email notification in a pair of emails. This happens mostly when there is a bit of time between mentions and they happen from different people. I will get two emails at a time, with the first notification having happened sometimes hours earlier. If I am on a busy thread or having a conversation with someone that has quite a few mentions in a short time, emails come through on time. That probably sounds really confusing and unclear, but it's hard to explain sorry.

I am also noticing that recently the app has been sending an alert often for one notification. If someone has tagged me or liked a post of mine overnight, I will wake to a number of alerts (maybe 15 this morning) for the one notification. That's probably a separate issue but thought it was worth mentioning too.

@NikNik I don't always received emails for @mentioned or other messages for threads I'm subscribed to.

For many months I haven't always received email notifications from @Faith-and-Hope - maybe I notice that more because we 'converse' more.

Over the last few weeks I have also not received the occasional @mentioned email from others (can't remember them all off the top of my head but @CheerBear @Former-Member @Phoenix_Rising are 3 that I can remember not receiving more than once).

My current notification settings are for @mentioned emails to come straight away but all 'likes' are daily digest.

The 'bell' notifications seem to be working fine but I am not always 'logged on' to see these - and will only log on sometimes to reply to an email notification (so no email - no log on - no idea of any 'missing' notifications...)

I will start 'documenting' times, types of notifications, patterns, etc. to pass on to you.

Hi @NikNik,

I have my settings set such that I don't get any email notifications - I rely totally on the little bell notificaton thing. This is probably a seperate issue, but since the app (android) automatically updated a little while ago, something seems to have gone awry. When I open the app, it shows the right number of notifications on the little bell, but the SANE icon on my phone currently shows 589 notifications. Do I REALLY spend that much time here?

@Phoenix_Rising try doing party planning and see how many you get - I think my notifications 'broke' the bell lol

@NikNik (I was only joking about breaking the bell - sorry that probably wasn't at all helpful for you - I blame little turtle - she brings the worst/best out in me lol)

@Zoe7 That's right, blame the turtle. I get blamed for you tinkling and now I am getting blamed for your bell not tinkling- sheesh! 😂😂😂

Really @Zoe7 do try to keep the thread on topic. @NikNik I apologise on @Zoe7's behalf. She and her bell seem to be all in a muddle about who should and shouldn't be tinkling. 😂😂😂

@NikNik, I have my notifications set so that I only receive email notifications for @ mentions and 'likes'. The problem I have noticed is only with the @ mentions. The problem with describing the problem is that it is sporadic and not consistent as far as I can see. Some @ mentions come through. Some don't. I will try to observe the problem more precisely over time and get back to you. That's if I even notice the missing @ notifications and don't just miss those posts altogether.

Hi @NikNik. My notifications via email have played up again today. I received them in a batch but missed one from Shaz this morning completely. I use my phone for foruming almost always and am wondering whether me timing out of my session has anything to do with the email notifications playing up as I've noticed (or think I've noticed) they come through as a batch rather than individually on time, more often when my session has timed out.
