Hey Life - give me a break.

Hey Life - give me a break.

@PeppiPatty - regarding my story - it probably warrants a thread of its own. Really needing my friends@Shaz51@Faith-and-Hope@Determined@Former-Member@Former-Member@Anony18@outlander@Former-Member @PhoenixRising @Former-Member

Sexually assaulted at age 13. Have never told my family.

Went to uni and moved away afterwards for work so fully independent then.

Came back to my home town after a couple of years.

Had a couple of serious relationships and ended up marrying a narcissist used car dealer (say no more) Basically raised my kids by myself. At 40, he had a fling with a married 19year old who already had a two year old child. He fathered a child with her and I found out some time later when I discovered he was paying child support payments. Stayed in this loveless marriage until the kids had finished school, then divorced which was nasty and I suffered financially big time. Had loaned his business money but didn't have anything legal drawn up. He also moved a lot of money around and had an overdraft on our home.

Got into a relationship with someone who was actually interested in me and shared common interests. It was the best and worst time of my life. He fits all the criteria of BPD. Moved interstate to be with him. The relationship became volatile and he physically assaulted me. This is when I became involved with this Forum. On one occasion, a neighbour called the police and he was arrested. They saw my injuries, he admitted guilt and he was imprisoned. I stood by him all during his incarceration, funding an appeal and he was released after eight months only to be deported as he wasn't an Australian citizen. I joined up with him overseas but the assaults continued. He got sporadic help for his MI but wasn't committed to getting better.

Eventually after yet another particularly bad assault and having the police involved, I returned to Australia and that was four and a half months ago. He appears to be serious about managing his condition now, taking medication, going to support and counselling sessions and hopes that I will return. However, all trust has been obliterated. We still have contact and that can get traumatic at times.

I started off on the Carers' side but find myself on the Lived Experience team as well. I have been having sessions with a psychologist.

Thrown into the mix is my own family. They don't know what I have been through. I used to care for my father and mother, used all my holiday and long service leave, taking time off work and eventually quitting so I could be there for them. Two of my siblings also live nearby but they were more concerned about building wealth than our parents' wellbeing so it was left to me. My father passed away and when I left to be with my partner, my mother's care was transferred to them. I feel they resented my decision but for the first time in my life I felt I was entitled to pursue happiness (not that it turned out that way) The sibs shut me out and when Mum passed away recently things went from bad to worse and as Executors of her will they scattered her ashes when and where they wanted without telling me and are responsible for distributing her estate however they see fit. There was no funeral or memorial service.

I live with my daughter and my son lives with his father. I love my kids with all my heart and live for them. I have a dog (actually my daughter's) who is my constant companion. I do a lot of walking and listening to music to escape the depressing thoughts I feel. I have no idea what to do with my life now and think it's all a cruel joke.

Hi @soul. Deep down you know what's best. Even in a "normal" relationship that falls apart first time around...the second time is no better. Use your strength to forge ahead with your new life. He's going to drag you back down. I keep being pushed under by my sick husband. I'm tired. I don't want this. I want to live my life. Live your life @soul. Don't fall prey to guilt. They know how to lay it on thick. Just realise how stressed you became just with the phone call. Imagine all that 24/7. I'm glad you are away from all that. Take care. Search deep. You know what is best.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

I'm not sure what to say to help you @soul .... my WH had elements of this that I thought were environmental. Then this form of e.d. arrived, and a whole new level of this crap emerged. Now he has been diagnosed with ocpd.

My psychologist answered the question of "Why wasn't he like this before ?" with "It has been triggered in him now" ..... meaning it was always there, just moderated, which it is not now, at least until appearances need to be kep, or blame laid ....

If you think you can manage to continue wing his friend, then I think that line has to be sharply drawn, with a threat to leave entirely if the friendship boundary is not respected, and requests to resume your former relationship made ....

Does that sit okay with you ?

Hi@mohill. I found it interesting what you said about your husband putting in the charm and wanting you to look like the perfect couple. My husband acts a certain way in front of our few friends we have left. Then when I say he is suicidal or whatever, they think I'm making it up. You are right...they do want control....it's not a good way to live....constantly tiptoeing around the sleeping giant! Take care

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Many thanks to my friends @Former-Member, @Former-Member@utopia@outlander@Former-Member@Former-Member@Lostatsea@Faith-and-Hope for your empathy and words of advice last night in my time of need. When I first came to these forums, I started off on the Carers' Side but have now gravitated over to the LE side. This in itself is an indicator of what I need to do.

The ex BPD kept sending me messages. I finally replied that I couldn't give him what he wanted because the damage done is irreparable. He responds with "I feel like my whole world, my existence has been shattered right now, I am in shock." This is what he does in the hope that I will rescue him. He has never self harmed just says stuff like this to get attention and sympathy. He asks "What have I done?" It could hardly be a surprise.

Since then there have been another 15 messages that I haven't opened. I will block him on messaging as I do not want to engage this way. I'll allow email as last time, I cut off all communication, he started contacting family and a couple of people who knew me and that turned out disastrous because he had lied about what was happening and garnered their sympathy.

I do wish him well. He isn't ready for any intimate relationship; one with me can never happen and he needs to understand that. He can bearly function on his own. I have to start looking after myself and continued contact of this dramatic nature is affecting me in such a detrimental way.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

Hi @soul

So sorry I was not around for you last night, there has been so much wonderful advice here that is better than I could provide.

Sounds like emotional blackmail is thick and heavy at the moment. I think as others have covered here already, while it is ok to feel empathy towards someone, and I think that shows an amazing strength in your own character after what you have been through, for your ex to play on that and try draw you back in is not ok. Even worse when he tries to draw family and friends in.

It is always easy to give advice from the outside looking in, I think everyone here and on the carers side has been on the receiving end of that more than once so I am cautious to add to the mix, practically when I struggle with boundaries myself, but as you and others have already eluded to, it seems that the best solution, for you and your wellbeing, is to agree go contact, only if you want to, with strict boundaries, as soon as he steps outside of that there is little option but to cut contact altogether.

Not an easy task though, I know it would be hard for me personally to just switch off like that. Thinking of you at the moment and trust you find the strength to get thriugh this difficult time. It is unfortunate that this extra stess has been heaped on you at such a difficult time.

Re: Hey Life - give me a break.

I must say that today had been a lot more peaceful since I blocked the ex BPD from messaging me. I read the 15 he sent me last night asking me for one last chance (lost count of how many last chances he's had), how he knows he can make me happy, all he wants is some hope, how I am everything to him and so on.

So draining because I've heard it all before and the promises are empty. This morning he realises that he's been blocked so then he emails me. Says he is absolutely devastated, telling me not to do this, doesn't know why I have, how tiring and soul destroying it is to be carrying on like this.

Next email - his heart is broken, he knows what he needs to do, asks me to believe in him.

Third email - apologises for being too "eager" and asks what I have been up to. Wants to be friends.

😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
