Mother with ocd and child with ocd.

Mother with ocd and child with ocd.

Hi, I was wondering if any body else has a lived experience of ocd and now has a child with it. I suppose my main reason for writing this is peer support as a parent with a child with ocd or other anxiety disorders. My daughter is eight years old?

Hi Ruby,

I have a father and twin brother with some OCD symptoms (undiagnosed), and I have a long hisotry of OCD (diagnosed). I also have a keen interest in the disorder i.e. the way it's currently perceived and understood.

Can I ask if yourself and your daughter have more psychical/mental compulsions, or avoidance type behaviours, or sometime differenct etc.

Hi Ruby,

I have a son witb OCD, he's 7. We are seeing a psychologist but the school is now involved. It seems very linked with anxiety. His dad has OCD and I struggle with anxiety. I am finding CBT (talking therapy) is good for my son but I have to keep constant tabs on it. Its hard for me as I dont have OCD so its difficult for me to understand but I do recognise the signs. If he is unhappy and stops eating or enjoying normal activities then I know something is up. I want to return to full time work but Im worried I will miss the signs if I work full time. he tends to hide things and not tell me about them till they have built up to a terrible, unmanageable level.

Hi Ruby

I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Neurosis ( which is the same thing I think), when I was 30, but I think I had it since I was 4 years old. At 30 years of age, I started anti-depressants ( anti-obsessives) and they helped heaps. I took them for 15 years all up, though spent the last 5 years cutting down. Now aged 46, I basically don't suffer anxiety at all. Both my sons are obsessive, each in a different way. My eldest had OCD for a while aged 6 following a sexual assault.

Hope you can get good help for your daughter

Best wishes
