Reflection Seat: The Arts and Mental Health

Reflection Seat: The Arts and Mental Health

Hello Everybody,

I have just returned from an opening of a public art installation; a lovely limestone Reflection Seat at Limeburners Point in Geelong.

It was freezing, touching and beautiful, and I will return on a sunnier day. There were a few high-profile people attending and after we adjourned for afternoon tea in the Beach House cafe.

It was commissioned in conjunction with CLAN (Care Leavers Australia Network) of which i am a member and the local city council.

I wonder if the moderators or high-ups at SANE have thought of starting some kind of creativity portal on this site. Somewhere that members' artwork could be displayed, with appropriate permissions negotiated with individual artists of course. It could give validation to creators, open inspiration for others and just help keep the direction of the site "positive".

Hi @Appleblossom

Currently, SANE is working on redeveloping the website - and user generated content (in whatever form it comes) is something high on our priority list!

To date, we've had one creative themed competition (see winners submissions here)

@SimpleAsThis often shares her artwork by taking a photo of it and uploading it. I believe her profile pic is one of her creations too.

It's definitely something we are really keen to tap into!

The reflection seat is a well cushioned comfy couch. Part of my thinking about a giant forum couch where we all can actually fit and cuddle. Or just lay back leaning againt or tossing our legs over our friends.

I still have not visited it again but might make it one weekend this year. Making plans for the future is a good healthy place for me. Even just small plans.

With my lack of emotional intelligence I found this picture fascinating. Honore Daumier
