Adventures with D

Adventures with D

as most of you guys know i have jsut acquired a new horse, im hopin this one will keep me a little less suicidal and less urges to self harm.

so lets have a thread about D or as @Former-Member one calls her Delicious

so first up let me give you a run down of D

she is 8 years old and is 16 hand high. she is bay in colour with a white marking on her leg and face.

D hasnt had a stable home for a very long time and her previous owners decided Amercia was more important to them then their own horse so they up and left her her in Australia, left to fend for herself in the paddock.

her feet are terrible, she malnourished, her teeth i question whether they ahve ever been floated and she hasnt been ridden that i know of and if she was she was broken in and then left.

so as you can see D hasnt had the best life or upbringing either so im hopin i can help her out.

first things first get her to gain some trust in me and start nourishing her with the feeds she needs, get her feet done and tetth floated as well

Re: Adventures with D

One of my old horses, Comet never used to come to his name. He used to come when I yelled out "Treat" though. In other words, I had to use bribery to catch him... the naughty boy. He was also terrified of the savvy stick and savvy string when I tried Parelli with him. He never quite got the hang of it, even if he did walk on the float happily in the end (knowing he'd get hay and treats probably did it).

Re: Adventures with D

ooh yes i think all horses come to 'treat' esp D when it comes to licorice!. she cant get enough of it!

im not crash hot on parelli style training. im more into buck brennerman training- ever heard of him?

Re: Adventures with D

Oh yes, I've heard of Buck. There was an information stall at equitana a few years back about his style of natural horsemanship. It works particularly well with rescue horses I believe.

Hahaha Comet loved licorice too! He also loved molasses licks mainly used for cattle. He broke into the neighbour's cow paddock once just to get to one - the lil' devil!

Re: Adventures with D

similar to parelli but better @Queenie and id much rather his methods. so i incorparate bits and pieces as im not fully into natural horsemanship- while i ahve nothing against it, ive jsut been brought up very differently to his style but the way i work works for me and it works for the horse too. im very gentle with them but still firm when need to be

haha lol naughty pony!
