How to get out of bed in the morning?

How to get out of bed in the morning?

Hi Saneforums,

I have so many issues but I suppose I'll tackle one at a time.

I have trouble with mornings, I wake up at 9-10am but will lay in bed till 12-3pm which makes me feel worse blood sugar wise. When I get up I may feel depersonalised, dizzy and anxious which makes me feel worse probably because I've delayed medication and food (and the next morning causes the same thing as I'm avoiding the unpleasant sensations by laying in bed again).

I think partly it's depression and lack of motivation doing this to me. Has anyone else had this problem and overcome it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to get out of bed in the morning?

Hi @Dothemo, I was thinking of you recently wondering how you were going. I have come out of long periods of time like that. Not that I'm 'recovered'. But where once I was sleeping up to 20 hours a day, hours scrambled, for long periods of time, I am currenly getting to bed about 9.30-10.00pm and waking at about 7 (and staying awake). My sleep is not completely undisturbed but it's better than it was by a long shot. The only way I've been able to do it is to set the intention to sleep in a healthier routine and then just keep trying with it until it gets better. It can be slow but just persisting helps move things in the longer run I think. A particular medication has also helped me with this but not the usual sleepers. The medication I take to help me get to sleep at night is non-addictive and I'm slowly weaning off it now with no adverse affects. Lists of things to do can help too, even if they are really small things. Best to you.

Hi @Dothemo

I know the feeling all so well. I had one of these days today... in fact, I did not manage to get out of bed at all. Usually I try to go for a walk, or somehow get me up to delay that: I need to be in bed feeling. Sometimes it passes, sometimes it doesn't. It is difficult and I would be very curious to know if anyone else had some advice?

@Dothemo I too have a habit of doing similar things, waking up ready for the day, but just staying in bed for hours not wanting to get up. It means I delay food and productive day time so I don’t get much done on those precious days off.

I guess levels of motivation and depression makes it even harder, so I’ll just share what I find helps me. I am really curious if you’ve found or tried something new that helps you?

I find it helps me by scheduling appointments or meetups early. That way I make sure I get to bed early and keep my usual routine. If my routine goes out of whack then I just lose sleep and get really lethargic.

If I’m not feeling the best or I need to take medicines then I sometimes keep snacks near me so my energy levels stay up and I have something nice in my stomach!

Have you tried anything new or found anything helpful?

Hi @Mazarita thank you, I'm glad to hear that you found a medication that works. I am up and down in moods and levels of functioning. I am still holding hope that I'll be healed from this benzodiazepine class drug withdrawal.

Re: How to get out of bed in the morning?

Hi @outlander, thankyou for the thoughts. Yes I actually was employed casually recently and felt better as I started work at 7am and worked for 4 hours, I felt great for the rest of the day. I don't know how that could completely change my behaviour. I wish I could do it without work too!

Re: How to get out of bed in the morning?

Hi @Former-Member, thankyou for sharing your strategies. Yes, what helps me is work. It's a catch 22 however because I feel I can only work part time and there isn't a heap of part time work available (or maybe I don't know where to look). Sometimes I have panic issues at work though and the thought of it makes me phobic. I had a benzodiazepine class drug to help me with that but unfortunately I became dependant and tolerant to it so I had to withdrawal. Withdrawal brought symptoms of its own that I'm still dealing with it 8 months out. I don't know what to do. Anyways, that's why I'm here on this forum.

Re: How to get out of bed in the morning?

@outlander sorry about the really late reply, notifications were off and I haven't visited in a while.

I am still having this problem along with the depression unfortunately. I am not working but it's funny you ask that as I am working on a good resume at the moment 🙂

How about yourself? Do you still have a similar problem too?
