Intro - Anxiety and Depression

Intro - Anxiety and Depression

Hi, I'm new to this. I've suffered anxiety on and off throughout my life. 2 years ago it got really bad and I went on medication. I tried 4 meds before I was referred to a psychiatrist. He put me on an antidepressant which worked great within 4-6 weeks. Felt fantastic for 6months so decided to wean off. I did successfully then after 3months anxiety came back bad. My Gp put me back on the med that worked. It's been 11 weeks now and my anxiety is down and I'm sleeping better but my mood has gone very low. I feel a little lost with where to go from here. Frustrated as to why this med is taking so long to work. Anyone have any feedback on antidepressants second time round?

Hi @Prilly123

Glad you are going back to your GP soon 🙂

Also if you put the @ symbol next to peoples names like i have done above to your name it will notify them that you have mentioned them in a post (unless they have turned off notifications in their settings - you can access settings from the top right hand corner of the page if you are using a desktop version).

How are you doing today?

Re: Intro - Anxiety and Depression

So visited my GP today. She didn't think I should change meds just yet. She will refer me to a psychiatrist but unfortunately in the NT there are only 2. One not taking new patients and the other only has 2 appointments per week. There is also someone who visits the NT twice a month for consults but I'm looking at October before I could get one. Felt abit crap after the visit, just have to wait I suppose and really try work through this. Any suggestions @Sahara @Former-Member @outlander ?

In regard to waiting until October that's bloody ridiculous!Surely when services are that poor it's possible to have video/on line skychat with a psychiatrist?Surely your GP Prilly123 can come up with a better solution/service than that! It's hard for people in crisis who are struggling to wait until October. If not,I agree with outlander who recommended you checking in weekly with your GP. I hope he/she offered this to you.My doctor did this for me even though I don't take him up on it because of me having no faith in counseling after 4 years. However I appreciate as a lifeline.

@Former-Member and @outlander found out that there is a new psych practice opening in July. I've got my name down on a list for an appointment so that's positive. In the meantime im going to see a psychologist weekly to try to keep on track. Staying positive.

That's good Prilly123

Just make sure you are comfortable and happy with that person, the right help is important, most of us have experienced some who are too preoccupied with their egos.Good luck!
