SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

WINTER BLUES 😞

Does anyone else start getting really down in May? As long as I can remember - may is a difficult month for me, long before the Major Depression label. It spirals into slothful living and sleeping the winter away. Even though I love autumn weather, on the inside I just want to go to sleep and bide my time 'till spring comes - when I know i get a burst of energy back. Lots of people suffer SAD, and for some its serious. Its a well documented condition, and in my case compounds existing depression & anxiety, the tipping point. I noticed here on the forums last year that a lot of us struggled to get through winter, even here in mild Australian weather. What, if any are your winter blues symptoms in the winter?

Yes @soul, I'm lucky my kidult son stays in touch, he's 27 and a quality human being. Says he'd never live with me again though (ouchy!) but guess that's normal. No, no request to cook - think its established that i am not a cook, but he always liked my big 4 layer choc, jam, cream. strawberry cake. My MI (mostly anxiety) had faused him not to expect much over the years (poor kid) but we can still have a laugh and good chats. Your son sounds sweet. Girls can be moody, yours sounds quite the handful. Sometimes we have to look for the hidden blessings and focus on them. You sound like a wonderful mum

Two of my finches were missing this morning, they must be hiding in the nest basket i'd say woohoo💕 😮 I just love how they wake up chatting away 🎶

I tried these Detox foot poultice overnight. They sure filled up and went black, yuko 😮, and the Rt one half peeled off. Maybe its my imagination but I have woke alert, and with more energy, certainly not depressed (any dark thoughts_ or pain come to think of it) - fascinating!. Gave some to my son to try and he reckons its "doing something" - made him feel better too, interesting.

Special hello today to ✋ @Faith-and-hope, ✋ @Dec, - hope you're going ok. Have a good one 🙂

Hi @Former-Member - that cake sounds pretty epic. Cooking was something I really loved to do. Now just living with my daughter, I don't go all out and besides which, I don't have the fully equipped kitchen I once had. And she's a bit fickle about what she eats - mostly vegetarian these days.

My son is definitely much more appreciative and considerate. My daughter will make the effort on my birthday and Mother's Day but at other times will be fairly selfish. She will rarely do any housework unless I ask her to. The other day, I asked her to wash her dog and she suggested that I do it. I gave her the number of the groomer that I pay for to get the dog clipped and told her that she could foot the bill for dog washing if she didn't feel like doing it. She ended up washing the dog 👍🏼

So you reckon little finches might be on the cards? 🐦🐦🐦🐦or were they just looking for a cosy place to hang out?

Those detox foot things sound interesting. Are they like socks that you wear?

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

No @soul, these 'mudoku foot detox pads' are held on by fixamol tape, but guess putting the herbs packet into socks or a bandage would work. There's a few skeptical reviews online but others swear by it. I woke feeling brighter, and if it relieves arthritis pain just in my feet I'll be happy.

Hope you have a good day today, don't know how I know but you seem a little flat today. Chin up 💕 Maybe treat yourself to a massage, vor at least a coffee & carrot cake out. Beautiful sunshine cool morning here 🌞

Oh, 2 little finches have surfaced, maybe it was warmer in there 🐦❤🐈❤

Hi @Former-Member .....

Your son is still within the age range where the kids as young adults begin to fault-find with their parents. They become really moralistic and start something of a role-reversal, wanting o correct and discipline you in a similar way to how they were raised by you ..... it eventually wears off when they realise that there are so many variables that it's hard to work out what is "just right" of the individual kids, and you as a family .....

Just bear with it. Some things don't change much until they are managing their own household and kids of their own. That's when they stop being armchair critics and put their ideas into practice, then come back to you saying, "Wow, this is really hard ! What did you do when we were doing (xyz) as kids and wouldn't listen to you ..... ?

@soul A bigger pot would be a good idea - because they're often root bound when you buy them. They've often been too long in a small pot.

Drooping leaves flowers or branches usually means that the soil & roots are too dry.

Maybe the water isn't soaking into the soil around the roots properly.

A bigger pot with more soil would help with that.

Make sure that you tease the roots out first before you re pot it - that will help the lavender to spread its roots out more naturally in the new pot.

Our sons @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope@Owlunar @soul

@Adge is right about lavender. Once it has established roots in bigger pot it wont need too much water.

I often hibernate in winter. I am not calling it SADS but hibernation and normalising it. Then I can really enjoy my spring emergence when I spend more days outside pottering in the garden in the sunshine.

In a way joining the zoo has meant I am more active and outside this winter. I see that as a plus, but also allowing for cocooning under doona.

Have a good day everyone.

Cheers Apple

Re: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Hi @Former-Member - I did have a restless night, woke up far too early and couldn't get back to sleep. The day wasn't very peaceful as the neighbours are getting renovations done and the painters are currently there. They had an almighty fight yelling and swearing at each other; so much so that I approached them and asked them to keep it down as I was trying to work.

They obliged mostly and later the younger guy started singing Ed Sheehan songs and whilstling. He has a really good voice and I much prefer that to the arguing.

Carrot cake sounds yummy - it's one of my favourites especially with cream cheese icing. I'm not a coffee drinker so I'll pass on that.

After complaining about my daughter, I thought we should do something nice so we went out to dinner and had sushi.

I hope you have had a good day. Have you tried taking turmeric or plain ginger for your arthritis?

Thanks for the advice about the lavender @Adge@Appleblossom. When I water it the water goes straight out the bottom. I shall try a larger pot.
