suicidal thoughts

suicidal thoughts

Sometimes suicidal thoughts seem so logical & the desire to just go ahead and die is so attractive.
Wish there was a pill to take away the pain. Or a time travel machine to go back in time & not f*** up.

Re: suicidal thoughts

Jumping in on your thread @utopia. I hope you don't mind. I need to know if suicidal thoughts ever leave. They've been with me so long. Today in my group we were walking and while I was by myself I was constantly being triggered by small stuff. I saw a grandmother my age with her grandchild and all I could think was I'll never be a good grandma like her, I should just die. I walked past a native garden and all I could think was I'll never have what it takes to have a lovely native garden again, I should just die. And then all those thoughts melded and had me believe that I have no future or perceived happiness ever again. All the time I was trying to tell myself that my task was walking and I just needed to be in the moment and take in what was around me but it's such a constant battle and it feels some days that I'll never be sane again. Do you ever get past the battle where you aren't trying to use strategies all the time just to want to wake up and see the next day. I think today perhaps it's harder to be out. I seem to find even more to trigger SI even it's a flipping grevillea in a garden!

Re: suicidal thoughts

@Former-Member. I don't normally have suicidal thoughts. So when they came last year and then again this year - that was enough for me to ask to go to hospital.
This time however, those thoughts are playing in my head quite often when the so called, smallest of stressors hit me. So I'm struggling big time right now.
I know when I was doing so well last year - it was because I worked on changing those negative thoughts - before they could become suicidal thoughts.
Eg: I might have walked past a pretty garden and thought 'how lovely'. My brain would say "you can't do or have that" & I'd answer "yes I can". And I'd start cleaning up a garden bed. Pulling out weeds and inappropriate plants over the next few months. I could do it. I just had to do it slower.
So it's retraining the brain to stop it's constant negative talk. And that's where therapy with a good psychologist comes in. Practicing. When you get a negative thought - write that one thought down & then try and write as many positive thoughts as you can.
Eg: I'll never have a beautiful native garden.
* I'm going to buy a native plant next week and plant it.
*I'm a good gardener.
* I can achieve this one step at a time
* I can make a list of all my favorite native plants.
* I have the time to do one thing towards this garden dream, every week.
Then each time you have that same negative thought - you read through your positive list. Each and every time.
It does work. It did work ffor me. But it takes practice. Initially you may not bekieve those positive words. But over time your brain will start to believe them..
I really need to practice what I preach.
