Being sent home from hospital too early.

Being sent home from hospital too early.

My son is in hospital and there is talk of sending him home very soon. When I say 'my son', I mean the complete strager I visit every day in hospital who now speaks with a very Royal British English accent 24/7, is still wearing exactly the same suit, white shirt and tie that he was wearing when he was admitted ten days ago (he normally never even wears a suit) and won't wear his normal clothes that I have taken in to the hospital because he claims they are not his clohes - that they belong to 'Norman Percy'. When I asked who Norman Percy was, he answered 'a normal person'. Instead of showing any signs of improvement since being admitted to the hospital, he has actually become worse and the British accent even more pronounced. He was admitted May 4th. Today is May 14th. Every single day I have asked to speak to a doctor but every time been told there was no doctor available. When I eventually spoke to a nurse, he was amazed to discover that the person who used to be my son is Australian, not English. Yesterday another nurse told me my son could be releasd from hospital next week.This would be a disaster as he lives alone and I live in a small one bedroom unit in a retirement village so he wouldn't be able to live with me.His diagnosis is bi-polar disorder which he has lived with for many years but what is happening now has never happened before, He has turned into another person completely and I am very worried.
My question is this. Can anyone advise me of someone I could see re getting help in keeping my son in hospital until he is 'himself' again, before being sent home? Is there a Body or Society I can report the hospital to if he is released prematurely?

@Mohill Hi, glad to hear that the strain and pressure on you and your son has somewhat lifted now that he's living interstate. Thank God for texting ! At the moment my son appears to be less restless and agitated but still wears the same suit and textbook under his arm. His accent has gone from Royal Family to Sir Winston Churchill to more of a well educated English aristocrat's son. They are in the process of changing his medication. I'm exhausted from all the driving and constant worry though and about to take your advice and drive to the local Foodworks to purchase a packet of Cheese Shapes.( Trouble is, Foodworks also sell bottles of wine. No, I'll be strong, I promise!)

@Jo

my son fled the state when his cto was due to expire in case they took him back into hospital and put him on another one.

we do not know exactly where he is.

he is on no medication and his witless father keeps sending him money and stuff.

there is no let up of pressure as his paranoia presents itself in text messages and phone calls. I dont know how he is when not contacting.

Cheese shapes enjoy

a day off tomorrow and just ring for update???

@Former-Member I am so, so sorry to hear what is happening to your son Mohill. What a nightmare !
And what a a terrible shame it is that his father keeps sending him money !!!!
I worked at Father Bob Maguire's soup kitchen for a few years before the church sacked him 'for being too old', which was a lie. (He was more active than most people 20-30 years younger then him) . The truth is that he spent too much of the church money on feeding the homeless at his soup kitchen and on mobile vans distributing food to the homeless futher afield and the church wasn't happy with this . But he was so generous that he often gave cash to the homeless (almost 80% of whom lived with mental illness) who turned up every Tuesday at the soup kitchen.This bit was a bit of a problem because while food and clothes were put to the best of use, the cash always went on alcohol and drugs. Giving away cash is not always a good move.

@Jo

yes what a lovely kind soul, however gifts of money can cause more harm than good.

his dad cannot express feelings, emotions therefore he feels that he is showing love by supporting him with money. I have given up even going down that track with him.

the silly thing is that my son has now accepted the boundaries I have put in place re money. Not at first, much abuse but on reflection has stopped asking.

i did speak to him the other night and he wanted me to do a transfer from one account to another of his online for him;his internet was down. I saw that he only had $30 left for about 10 days. So I sent $50 of my money as well, with the message buy some healthy food. I see this as my choice not his request.

A very tiring time for you, we can't take away your concerns but we can listen and support you.

take care xx

ps how were the cheese shapes? I have only a few left in my box!!

Morning @Jo
Quick hello and encouragement to hang in there. Improvements that we like to see in days often take weeks.
