The meaning of life... on the Forums

The meaning of life... on the Forums

Hi All,

With the Forums growing everyday, I'm starting to feel like it's growing up. Some of you may not know this, but the Forums were only officially launched in August last year. Some of you have been around for longer than this (during our development phase), while others have been around for shorter amounts of time. All of these experiences are what the make the community what it is today. It's been an absolute delight watching our litttle community grow. But it's got me thinking, who are we as community?

So I'm asking for your thoughts on this. What makes us a community? What are your thoughts on who we are as a collective group of people? And more importantly, have you got thoughts/ideas on how this community can make its mark in society?

Big questions, I know, but I'm curious on knowing who we are seeing we have grown a bit together. If you're not sure where to start perhaps you can just list the three first things that come to mind. Here's mine:

1.) United by a common cause

2.) Friendships with people that 'get it'.

3.) Connection and support

I'm going to mention some members to get the ball rolling but I invite you to invite others who you think might like to join in @Alessandra1992 @kato@kristin @Former-Member @kenny66@peace@PeppiPatty@PeppiPatty@hiddenite@sara

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

CB

Re: The meaning of life... on the Forums

Thanks @PeppiPatty !! I had written more, but it seems to have been lost in cyberspace. 😀
I look forward to coming on here and chatting to everyone, but I have a few that I talk with regularly and I love meeting up with you guys (in the safety of my home 😜)

This forum (and you guys) have saved me, quite literally. I joined when I was in a very bad place and was very close to SH or outright ending it.

The support and advice from members encouraged me to continue treatment and learn to be more open with people about my experiences with MI.

Re: The meaning of life... on the Forums

That's really wonderful to hear @Crazy_Bug_Lady ! It is SO encouraging to hear that you have been en-couraged.

To me this is central to the meaning of life on the forums - a space to real about MI (ups and downs and in-betweens), somewhere where others "get it" or at least try, compassionate, non-judgemental and en-couraging, a place to foster friendships, share ideas and learn and grow.

My only really big concern is the enforced anonimity, I agree with the choice of privacy being available -this is essential, but not everyone feels the need for it. I think when we are ready to come out of the closet (so to speak) about our MI we should not be forced to stay in it on the forum.

Keep up the great work CBL, you are being part of the change you want to see. That's a fantastic gift to us all, including you.

Kindest regards,

Kristin

Hi @kristin and ( of course ) @Crazy_Bug_Lady,

Yeah, I really love coming online.... :0)
But I like the anominity of Sane Forums. When all realise I have three legs and Greg McGuire Who wrote Wicked (I think that's him.... ) got the idea of green wicked witch from my sexy hands, I can't imagine anyone taking my posts with any type of seriousness ........

Re: The meaning of life... on the Forums

I like the anonymity to a certain extent. It'd be nice to be a bit more specific with details, but at the same time, I like the fact that I can come here and blab about work or whatever. If I found that I worked with someone on here that'd be awkward. 😜

Re: The meaning of life... on the Forums

Hey Anne, I totally think it should be there - just that it should not be imposed but rather our own choice. Does that make sense? I would certainly argue that anyone who wants to maintain their anonymity should be able to do so.

And we love you as you are: warts, hands and all. Take care of you.

Kind regrards,

Kristin
