I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Hi @CheerBear, I'm not sure what day you are going into hospital this week...but whatever day it is, I know you know I'll be with you but not. I super like the idea of you drawing a turtle on yourself since they won't let you take me and the rest of the pocket crew in in.

@Former-Member ooooh I super like those water babies. I feel like I'm NEVER going to get the hang of this crocheting gig at the moment. I think I need to find somewhere to get a few face-to-face lessons.

@Former-Member one of the things I do as part of Operation Stay Alive is jigsaw puzzles. I found this one in the shops the other day and it made me think of you. I did it over the weekend.

@CheerBear,@Phoenix_Rising
Once , many moons ago, I was working in a hospital and on this day looking after five or six young boys getting operations on their boy bits. One little boy, all prepared for Theatre was very qiuietly coloring with new textas. On closer inspection I realised he had completely coloured his boy bits purple.
His surgery was cancelled 😩😞

Re: I'm in a nest

That's an awesome jigsaw @Phoenix_Rising neat find for you. I have a collection of jigsaws too, they are a lovely easy on the mind pass time.

If you'd like Phoenix_Rising, I can organise a couple of links to really good teaching videos for you, there's quite a lot out there, but not all are equally good. I might hunt some down and put 'em in the craft thread 'cos there might be others who would appreciate it too. Wish I could help - ponders making her own teaching video .... Don't despair, maybe changing the way you hold the hook, or the yarn will help with it falling into place. Maybe talk about the troublesome bits in the craft thread? If you want to of course, perhaps I can help ... or not, that's okay too.

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi nest,

Thanks so much to those who left messages over the last couple of days. It felt so good to crawl in here and see them. I really appreciate the not-so-alone feelings I get from being here 😊 I can't reply to everyone right now (scrambled head) but thank you 💗
Today sucks, which I expected being that I'm going off adventuring tomorrow. I've got anxious banana snowflaked fired-up brain having a total field day about it. I think it's the idea of being vulnerable, exposed, having everything out of my control, being alone, jumping to worst case scenarios etc - It's zero to a million. I used to be able to do stuff like this a bit easier but now so many things feel hard with a little bit harder on top and this is one of them. I know I need to find my brave but it appears to have gone missing completely :face_with_rolling_eyes:. I'm now secretly hoping I come down with one of the bugs the little fish have all had over the weekend so I will have to cancel it. There's still time 🤞😉And now thanks to you @Catcakes, I have a plan B if I want to get out of it at the last minute, although on back/side bits not boy bits (that little guy was on to something there 👍) 😆
I vented to my mental health worker this morning about the not forum-shareable stuff, which felt good. She sat through a whole lot of ugly angry words and gave me some validated feels in return, knowing why and where those feelings are coming from. Things felt a bit better after it but when she left I went to pick up my helpful person and my car wouldn't turn on. It was one too many things and it was laughable. My helpful person needs the car and it's the day before pay day so I couldn't do the fix the car thing until then, but tomorrow is out too. Today wasn't supposed to be work-out-how-to-fix-the-car day it was supposed to be a get head-ready day. I was laughing so much at how not-funny things felt that I went bananas. It's sorted-ish enough to put it aside in a worry about another day box now, which is good.
I'm venting here in the nest with a blanket over my (yep it is fully) unicorned head hoping that it will stop me from taking my foot to my car or something not-so-foot-friendly as I can't imagine that will make anything actually better after the initial 'feels-better for having gone snap momentarily', moment (my MH worker and I are going to look again at kickboxing once I have recovered 😁). At least I am clocking up my DT skills practice and I am really looking forward to writing on the DBT thread adventure once this little (maybe a little bigger than little) hurdle part is over @Phoenix_Rising which it will be soon enough. It'll pass ☺
@Former-Member I finished my project that I wanted to do this week over the weekend and I was busting to show you. I made this newbie cocoon.
I'm going to have to scramble through my stash and find something to work on tonight I think 🤔 Water babies could work. I organised it with the help of your fab zip lock bag idea thanks.
Waving hi to all and hoping everyone is going ok/okish. Looking forward to catching up properly soon, but not really up to it right now. See you all when I see you (and thanks for listening) 👋

(((CheerBear))) can't wait to see the cocoon @CheerBear

Thinking of you. Wishing you good things and good outcomes. So hard to do this stuff. The future CheerBear will be better for having gone through this troublesome situation though won't she?

OOOh, kickboxing sounds like an amazing idea.

Adds another pattern book to the craft cupboard for inspiration.

Future CheerBear will definitely be better off, you're right @Former-Member thanks 😊💗

I just read your message over on Craft Corner - I am SO glad you're over there. It makes me huge smile! It's everyone's everywhere here SunShower and I love that you're having fun over there (and I can't wait to be able to hang out over there with you a bit more again) ☺

Yay for tiny toys - thanks!

Re: I'm in a nest

You are so very welcome! So very glad to have helped.

Hurry up images ....

A tidied up stash will be so much easier to gather things for your projects now too. Awesome work, truly awesome undertakings to keep you balanced. You're doing better than you give yourself credit for!

Re: I'm in a nest

@CheerBear That is amazing work!

Crochet cables, and a tassel and buttons! Gorgeous. I do love that the colour is dark too, as it could be more calming for the little one.

Gosh that's been an adventure I bet. Excellent tension (I embiggened the image so I could see it better and the tension is awesome )

OH, my goodness, you are very skilled and if you can do cables, you can do practically anything. No wonder you were busting to show me!

Can't wait to see what else you do.

I have to get going to make crepes to go with the mushroom roux I made last night for dinner.

Before I go, was saving this, but it might provide some thought provoking craft enjoyment in the coming days and nights. So will add it to the bookshelf. Grandma Perkins Magical Flower Child doll pattern
