Living with BPD

Living with BPD

Hi all.
I'm new to this, Im 23 and I was recently diagnosed with Borderline personality disorder after a terrible low period which consisted of self harm and many many suicidal thoughts. I have been seeing a phycologist for a few months now and taking meds daily which has already helped a lot but I'm looking for support as I feel I have very little, mainly because I have not told any one of my problems beside my husband. I unfortunately do not have friends as I have a hard time keeping them. Is there anyone with similar problems? Im feeling very alone.

Hi @Rose11

I hope things are going well for you!

I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow night (Tues, 16 June) we will be hosting a Topic Tuesday session on debunking the myths of BPD. It kicks off from 7pm AEST. You can read more here

@Crazy_Bug_Lady , @peace and @Ellie - I hope you can make it too!

Nik

Re: Living with BPD

Thanks Nik. Of course this topic would come up on the only week I'm going to be away

In an effort to lift myself out of the hole I seem to have fallen into, I'm going up State for a couple of nights, so won't be around. I'm actually feeling quite anxious about leaving the house, but if I don't push myself, then I'll never feel good about myself again.

Hope the Topic Tuesday gets the attention it deserves and I hope those who can benefit from it do so.

Ellie.

Re: Living with BPD

Hi Rose, I have BPD and after a lifetime of not knowing I suffered from it and was told I had PTSD, Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety, I am finally putting my lifetime of experiences together. I can only say it is like a nightmare and as if I've been living someone else's life. I have also lived a life of self harm and suicidal thoughts. I've had friends and lost them for a number of reasons. My husband is the only one who has stayed with me but he also finds my moods difficult to cope with. I too, feel alone even though I see psychology people every week. My dog is my best friend and she gives me so much love. I don't think I need or want everyone else in my life because it always ends in heartache. I write poetry and paint to keep myself calm and mindful. That is my only relief to this terrible illness. I feel for you and hope you find something to relieve the symptoms. I'm not saying it is a cure but it helps to give yourself some self worth. I wish I could post some of my work on here for you to see. Take care.

Re: Living with BPD

It makes me sad that it is the creative, ethical and sensitive people who end up being labelled with MI diagnoses. Its just my opinion, but i feel justified when hear that studies are being done about the narcisstic traits of those "successful" in business.

Hi @Bubbles3,

I am doing a super quick fly through Forum Land this evening. I have BPD. I use lots and lots of DBT skills to manage my super big feelings. There are a few of us in Forum Land working through the DBT manual here. You are very welcome to join us if you would like to.

Re: Living with BPD

Hi @Bubbles3,

That's great that you've done lots of DBT work. Which of the skills do you think might be helpful regarding impulsive behaviours?

I like to remind myself that feelings are just feelings and I don't need to act on them. They pass. I also super like doing the whole pros and cons thing. I know how much work it takes to resist acting on strong urges. I love how there are about a bazillion skills taught in DBT so that if one doesn't work, we always have another one to try.
