depot injections

depot injections

Hello. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what depot injections are like and what to anticipate being on them. I'm strugggling to take my antipsychotic. I'm supposed to have it with food to get the full benefits. I can't because i have an eating disorder. I take it just before bed on an emptied stomach and it burns. Last night i didn't take it at all because my stomach was hurting and i felt really lightheaded. I have 2 diagnoises. first is schitzoaffective from my former psych and my newest from another psych - bpd. I have been in and out of hospital last year and again earlier this year because of psychosis. I have been warned if there's a next time i'll be put on an order. I get the paranoia alot like now

Re: depot injections

Hi @Simona I am prescribed a depot injection. The one I have is given fortnightly, although there are some which are only given once per month. I find there are minimal side effects (I feel slightly flat in mood for a day or two before it is due, and then feel tired the day after the injection). I also find it works quite well for me in combination with other meds. I am also schizoaffective, although I live mostly with the schizophrenic style symptoms rather than the mania.

I hope this info helps.

Thank you for sharing @Queenie i get really paranoid about my antipsychotic. Just the act of swallowing it takes alot of self talk because the other me says it's poison/calls me traitor. Like i know it's supposed to keep me stable and with my family but i like hovering between this world and the Other. Not everything is scary/bad. I like feeling like i'm the special one. Did you experience any weight gain from the depot shots? I hope i'm not over stepping the mark here. I'm anorexic and i'm terrified of gaining weight.

Re: depot injections

My particular depot injection is weight neutral meaning it isn't supposed to cause weight gain. Having said that though, some of my other antipsychotics I take (I take some orally as well as the injection) have caused weight gain. I've lost a bit though of late which is great for me as I really needed to.
