Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

Please do ask sweetie, please. It's a pleasure to teach someone who wants to learn something different! It's an honour actually.

I can't always remember well enough all the details and we all learn differently. I was rather upset with myself that I had missed that point. Glad the info will be useful though.

Keep up the good work, cos you have done really well, and I don't think I said that enough either as I was so intent on finding an explanation to help.

Must go, you have an excellent night.

Re: Craft Corner

Thank you @Former-Member - many say they would not have the patience for such intricate work. Funny thing is that I am not a patient person in many things - I just love the art so much.

Thank you for the inspiration - the rocking and crocheting sounds so relaxing......x

@CheerBear I've getting into jewelery making and macrame weaving I've been making macrame-style stone pouches for pendants and necklaces and making rosary-style necklaces. I can also draw, and when I'm feeling really bad sometimes, I try to draw out my feelings.

Hi @CheerBear, I wish you all the best on your mission to take over the world with crochet ⭐️A wonderful goal!

I’m impressed that you taught someone to crochet here. Well done, you really are committed to your goal. Lol. The crochet owls sounds like it turned out brilliantly.

Hi @Former-Member, thank you, I’ll keep that in mind. Your crocheted slippers look great! Fun summery colours 🌸🌺

Hi to everyone else too 🌼💐

@Former-Member your cross stitch is amazing. That would have taken so long to make. Beautiful and love the frame ❤

Hi @EternalFlame ☺ I had little look at macrame pouches this morning. So cool! Do you they take you a while to make? They remind me of a little bag/pouch I used to have a set of worry dolls in. Drawing out your feelings sounds like a really great thing to do.

Hiya @Pepperpot - nice to see you again ☺ Hope you're doing well.

I'm going to use something crafty as motivation to do some housework this morning (so I can guilt free play). Hope the day goes well for all.

Re: Craft Corner

Hi to everyone at the craft corner. Does restoring furniture and/or decorating it count as a craft? I’m going to a church garage sale in two weeks time to look at buying my first project. Wish me luck. This will be something completely new to me, an outdoor activity for my creative juices.

Indoors, I knit, cross stitch, long stitch, draw, rubber stamp, but I have yet to learn to crochet. So far, all attempts to learn have brought me to tears. I don’t have anything to photograph for you to see, but I knitted a blanket for my niece when she was a baby, and when she moved to a “big kids” bed (that is, a normal single bed), I made it bigger and even cross stitched her name on it. To give you a hint, her favourite colours are pink, purple, red and blue. The cross stitching was done in black 8-ply knitting wool.

Re: Craft Corner

Sure does qualify as craft to restore and decorate furniture @Annabelle4 .....

@Former-Member was working on a chest of drawers last year.

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear, they can be tricky to make, but once you get the hang of it it's quite easy. I use a basic alternating pattern. The trick is to tie together the correct strings in the pattern otherwise it can get confusing. I've had to undo several ones and start again becasue I've ended up tieing the wrong bits of string together.
