Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Sharing this sbs biopic

https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/watch/1847860803846

Started an animated version of Van Gogh's artwork which made me dizzy and triggered. DOIng this biopic slowly in 20 min sessions. Used to seeing palettes and easels ... but they are not my tools. Visited art galleries with father and tried to share with mother took her to a big religious exhibition, as she always peddled god but was cynical about it as she aged, tho the religious loved her.... weary sigh ....

Anyway its in me genes as much as Sz is ....???

@Mazarita Thank you for sharing your weekly schedule. It is busier than mine. I really get the need to recover after being with people. I needed a whole day to recover from a few hours. Maybe that says a lot about how isolated I had become. Yes the physio was good, I do feel I should reduce it to once per week soon, but trying to find another physical exercise I can commit to.

I went to a tai chi class but not sure will follow through ... the guy is not really experienced nor the group. It was free. MOst people had never done any before. I guess I was ahead of my time, cos I first did Tai Chi just after birth of my son ...so nearly 30 years ago. Only for 2 terms ... on a shoestring, but worth it. Finding it hard to commit atm, beyond being available as a mother in the background. One choir is fortnightly atm ... A second of my old choirs is doing a concert so I will go to that for about 10 weeks.

Re: Craft Corner

I had wondered on occasions lately if you were still singing, @Appleblossom. So glad to hear you are.

Yes, recovery after people, part of it for me as well. There have been a number of cancellations over the six to eight weeks, possibly more by support workers/therapists than me. Nonetheless those days have been good for the break.

I have started out with ndis with no expectation of myself other than doing what I want to do to enhance quality of life, easier feelings, enjoyment, pleasure in what I am doing and being. I am walking away from feeling the need to prove anything to anyone, including myself. Shedding any desire to be a good girl for anyone including me.

I am. That's enough. I am enough.

That's a quote from the first of my hypnotherapies. Just listened to the recording for the sixth time since the first in-person session. Different every time, so many wonderful aspects to it. So far this is the best psychology treatment I've ever encountered.

Re: Craft Corner

I used the Good Enough Parent mantra for a long time, and metta ... loving kindness ... they got me through a lot. Felt more real and relevant than the prayers I was taught as a kid. Interesting you also like hypnotherapy @Mazarita I can understand you might find a big personality in your mum overwhelming. I can be like that at times, but mostly I am quiet, does she have a quiet side? Or can she respond without hurt to being quiet for a while . I love you doing walks with no words. My nanna used to hush me up when we went for walks when I was a child, so I learned to listen .... and there is a lot to hear. Mostly I bring up my big verbal personality side to match another persons, or for teaching and concerts. I figure I studied enough so can speak more now.

My son recently travelled from west to east of Melbourne for hynotherapy sessions. He paid for them personally. Proud that he is discerning. Proud he wants to be responsible for his own MH.

He does not like NDIS and what it stands for him as a young man, so though he is entitled, he rejects it. Sadly there is so much he is entitled to that he rejects, (Including school) it became a strong and stubborn streak in him I guess. The stoopid psychologist I had during all this told me my family just wanted to use services ... she did not have a clue. Part of my problem is the failure of the services, past and present, .. I try and be grateful and balanced about it tho.

For me NDIS was wrapped up a bit in dealing with the blow out of sons actions due to his intense BP1 episodes. Partly I was in very desperate circumstances and needed it, but also trying to model for him appropriate interactions and engagement with services. The crisis aspect of his episodes last a while and then there is a sense of winding down. His biggest was 4 years ago, which lasted over a year in the courts, and then 2 smaller ones since.

One Little Warrior Woman

I tried so hard for all 3 children. It is what it is.

At the moment I am very very tired. It was really lovely to se your post. Gave me a little lift. I do hope you continue to get value in your plan.

Sorry I derailed thread.

This image was in my nanna and brother suicided artwork. Now it is sold as Indian ... but it goes much deeper than National or Religous symbols ... to life ... creation and being human ...

IMO

Re: Craft Corner

Hi everyone 🙂 Thought I might share some art I have been working on. I had all these timber canvas frames at home, have painted and sanded them back. As opposed to putting a big canvas on it, I added some string and am hanging up photos from the month before. Our 4 year old is loving seeing all the photos of things he's done each month.

At the moment I have 2, but still more frames to make 🙂
