Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

What is it made from? Reminds me of Bindees stidy beads from many years ago.

@FragileMe, if you go back a few pages I describe it in a bit of detail to Greenpea. It's called diamond painting. Essentially small beads stuck on a sticky canvas, like paint by numbers. I've done about 5 or 6 now. Thanks for sharing your colouring in and glad you found your way to the craft corner 🙂

I love your crochet @Maggie ! Well done! Also to you @CheerBear ! I’ve heard of Sophie’s universe crochet but am a little fearful of it as I’m not that advanced and it looks complicated! I’m glad that you have done parts of it though! Keep up the great crochet work!

@Gazza75 I love your Van Gogh diamond dots painting! It’s gorgeous! I have a particular like of that picture and would love to personally stitch it in cross stitch, so I just may have to track it down and add it to my list! There is a painting I saw in the National Gallery of Victoria back in 2016 called The Weeping Woman - I can’t recall the artist- but that also struck a chord of emotion with me and I’d like to cross stitch that picture as well. I’m not very up with art in general but I do know what I like and can admire the talent in what artists do. I also like how their pictures can be transformed into other things like diamond dots paintings, cross stitch, etc. So versatile!

@FragileMe i like your colouring in picture! Very cute! Well done! I like colouring in mandalas in colouring in books myself and drawing random things. I have included a photo of my picture I did on Wednesday which I’m proud of. I’m thinking of photocopying it and adding to it by colouring in the circles but I’m not sure yet. I hope you like it.

@Judi9877 Nice to see your big friendly hello 😊 Your drawing is very cool and would look great with some colour I think 🙂

Love that you've seen Sophie's Universe. I stopped after having done quite a few rounds of the first one I started as I got super excited and bought delicious cotton yarn to make it with as a treat. I thought I'd worked out the right amount when I bought it but I hadn't and it's only available online where I am and way too expensive for the whole thing to be done in it. Pretty nice yarn to look at in my collection though haha 😉 Sophie's Universe is complicated but it's made a lot easier by the awesome tutorials (videos and written) that the designer has given us. If you're thinking of having a go, I strongly encourage you to as it gets easier as you go I think! The other one I love is Mandala Madness. I learnt most of my crochet from making that one.
