Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Lol re your doona cover. Our craft room is the dining room and our table has a lot of 'character'. I bought the table when I left him lots of years ago so I had little littles then. I had never owned anything of my own that I thought was quite as nice as it. The first week we had it someone had a mega giant oopsies on it and it was wrecked (on the surface not functionally). Aside from one big ouch moment when it happened, I have loved it even more since then as it's been used and used and has little reminders of all kinds of times and fun creations (kids painting, slime making, drawing, texta-ing, banging, glueing, nail polishing, glittering... etc.) I'm just adding to it now 😉. Thanks to dotting I also have a painting jumper (my pj top) and a painting coat (my dressing gown) too 😆

That was a bit of a rant, but I nice memory.

Just got your last message while I was typing this - you are never annoying, ever! 😊💜 Thank you for always being super encouraging and supportive. It's so nice to have a place to share and great people to share with 😊

@saturnzoon, diamond painting is placing little dots or beads onto a template or canvas. The canvas is sticky and you push the dots or bits onto it. Tricky bit for me is knowing which way is up and down with the beads or dots. You have a little pen or applicator, glue to pick up the beads and then you push them on. The butterfly is my 2nd one so I'm pretty new to it myself. I'm about 2/3 done and its probably taken 10-12 hours roughly. I thnk it looks better than in the photo, has nice sparkly bits through it. 🙂

Hi @Maggie @CheerBear @Gazza75 @outlander @Serenity1 and everyone crafty here! I’m really loving all of your craft work! You are all so talented so well done👍!

I decided yesterday to get back into doing some cross stitching as I was a little bit tired of knitting and crocheting and headed to Lincraft to get some 14 count Aida. I knew I had some DMC cottons around so I just needed to look for them in my room and get started! Anyway, as I’ve been really stressed lately due to housing issues, I thought that this might calm me down and it really helped me immensely. I decided to do a freehand type thing which I’ve titled ‘Psychological State of Mind’ with the black in the middle representing depression/things I can’t control and then I’ll add differ colours according to how I feel. It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never really made an effort to stitch it. I’ve put a photo of what I did yesterday and last night - I was stitching between 1:30am- 3am this morning as I couldn’t sleep yet found it really relaxing listening to music on my iPod- so I hope you like it. There’s no real reason behind the shapes - I just make it up as I go and edit it if I want to. I like this as it’s like having a blank piece of white paper and I can do what I like on it, in regards to whatever I feel like stitching. It’s fun!

I really want to stitch up my knitted teddy bear sometime this week as well and give it to my housemate. She picked the colours and has already named the bear Molly, so I think I need to get some toy stuffing into it and sew it up! My housemate is great and we’ve been friends for over 3 years - she’s also got MH issues but is studying the Diploma of Nursing and is really helpful and friendly! That’s why I love making her this teddy. When it’s done, I’ll try and post a photo.
