Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

There might be art and craft groups in your area where you can just turn up and pay a nominal fee on the day rather than signing up for a term or anything .... a sort of pay as you go deal .....

Re: Craft Corner

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope. Have you volumes of visual diaries done 😊? It is really lovely when you get on that roll. The person who took us shared her work and it was amazing. I’m sure I’ll be so inspired by yours. Can’t wait to see your growth and progressions across different areas. My friend did textile art many years ago and I adored lots of her work too.

Re: Craft Corner

Lots of smiles back @CheerBear. Thanks for the encouragement. I’d like to do some more. I really did pull those big girl pants on a few times. 😜

oh and a very talented house mate helped me too. We stayed up the last night to finish it which was really nice. 🤗💜

Re: Craft Corner

Sounds like you seriously did that @Teej! 😊 Hearing that your time away was good and helpful, and sensing that you took something from the experience, is so so great!

There's so much to be said for being creative, especially when sometimes minds can feel and be so destructive (I think anyway). For me it's like a really intentional step away from destructo bear head (that's a new one lol)

You rock 👍💗🤗

No-cook Playdough-for-adults Recipe

2 cups plain flour

2 tablespoons oil

1/2 cup salt

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

1 to 1.5 cups boiling water (added a little at a time until consistency is right)

* food colouring (optional)

* few drops glycerine (optional)

* few drops essential oil (optional)

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl.

Add food colouring TO the boiling water then into the dry ingredients

Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough

Add the glycerine (optional)

Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone.

* This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency

* If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right

Hi @Teej@CheerBear@Faith-and-Hope@PatchouliRose

I read this interesting article this morning on the mental health benefits of craft and thought I'd drop it in here in case anybody was interested.

Happy crafting ☀️
