@Former-Member
I'm the same, the only support I have is my partner (sometimes as he has bipolar) and my dog and the forums.

lil-caterpillar, something I'm still working on... "We have to practise being our own best friend so much that it doesn't matter what people do around us"

Sorry its like that for you, people around but not close. You'll get there, maybe don't try so hard and it will come naturally 🙂

Re: no friends- where have i gone wrong
@Former-Member Hello dear, social situations can be quite difficult. My anxiety rarely plays up unless I'm very intimidated in high stress situations where my body betrays me by shaking. Still, I find that immersion is the only process which works for me. Have you found a passion what you can engage with in a group? I've found that kickboxing has done wonders for me -- but make sure you're okay with a bit of physical pain. Any kind of group sports activity is a great platform for socialising. The way I think of things, you could try chess and go in with no intention of joining up but just take it as an opportunity to talk to people without bringing up anything personal or MI related. You may not have to talk to anyone there again so long as you enjoy the interaction.
My choice is a conservative one where I refrain from telling real-life friends and acquaintances my MI and the extent of my life choices because I am cynical about people and change. I feel that I am personally responsible for my actions to change my mindset. The reflection of my illness upon others and that other people's judgements of my health are of very little regard to me. If you work on yourself, you will have your mind as your friend.
Hope this helps, Glorianna
