Re: I hate exercise
I tried the local oval because i was by myself and its very public. so apart from the local birds swooping me in spring no one bothered me while i did it. i even bought myself a rain coat and umbrella so i had no excuses never to go. I always advice every one to try exercise for 2 weeks and see if any moods you want to work on change

Hi Annabelle
A sustainable routine is the hardest bit and one that I would say the majority struggle with. Exercise is just part of it and you mentioned healthy eating too. Little steps are the best way forward. Try the exercise first, and when it feels like a routine review the diet, or the other way around. No doubt there are other things on the list of "I should be doing....." but....from little things big things grow.
For myself, I am finally in a good routine exercise wise. I have always struggled to maintain a routine and it was hard to get into it this latest time around, but I started by just kicking the footy around the oval. Even now though, there are days when I can't bear to do it because I'm tired, it's cold, or just over it, so I afford myself a day off. However, when I feel like this I also think, would a run help me shake these feelings?
I'm now training for a marathon but I'm stuck in the dilema of thinking "I should be eating better to loose more weight". However, I fight this off because achieving the exercise routine has been huge so I'll take that win and tackle the eating bit another time. I eat pretty well now but most of us could always eat better, it's just the way it is.
It's a long process. Set long term goals that you can chip away at. Rather than plan what to do, just plan a time each day to do something. If you can do it at the same time each day that will help. I'm lucky now that I can exercise in my lunch breaks and it's become something I really look forward to and struggle if I don't get out.
Whatever you do, and however you do it, enjoy and remember, it is better to fail trying, than to fail to try, so you're on the right track.
Cheers

Re: I hate exercise
Hi guys,
I think the basic fact that we are all talking about it is a positive thing in itself!!
And Bond, I love your comment - it is better to fail trying, than to fail to try,

Re: I hate exercise
Thank you and I totally agree. So long as we're having a go that's all that matters.
I once got told a story that really touched me and try to recall when I'm struggling for motivation.
A lady that was really self conscious and hated leaving the house, let alone go to the gym, wanted to start exercising.
Day one, she bought some runners.
Day two, she started to walk to the gym but turned back half way.
Day three, she made it to the gym but was too self conscious to go in.
Day four, she went into the gym but didn't do any exercise.
Finally she got on the treadmill and started building up time.

Re: I hate exercise
I'm well thankyou and really glad to hear that you were able to take some inspiration from my post.
That's awesome, enjoy the walk. Keep chipping away at it and the walk will soon be the preferred option. It's awesome too because you can take in the sites, sounds and smells as you go.
I love walking the city as I'm new where I am so keep finding new little shops and cafés etc.
Cheers
Jesse

Re: I hate exercise
Okay, Thankyou for replying. there is many cute shops on the street I live in and cafés. I've lived here for one year and the only hiccup is someone who interferes constantly in the neighbours and my day to day goings on. I live in public housing, I am sure that that person does not cause too many waves with public housing though.
Are you new on this forum? Hello...I have only been on it for two weeks but I am on the forum reading most days....
Just another 47yr.....

Re: I hate exercise
I can imagine there may be a few interesting characters where you are and I hope this one in particular does not cause you too many issues.
I'm quite lucky that I work in the city, although I have been recently working out of the industrial area in port melbourne. I wasn't enjoying my lunch time runs until I discovered that if I went a little further then I could make it to port Phillip bay and back. Loving it again now. The ocean is quite spiritual for me so makes things easier.
I too am new and just started last week. It's been good to be able to engage with other like minded individuals such as yourself.
Cheers
Jesse

Hi Annabelle,
I saw your post and thought you might be interetsed in the Mind + Body Challenge happening as part of Mental Health Week 2014. Finding the motivation is a common barrier many people face, sometimes starting small is best and gradually building on that helps.
The link to it is here http://saneforums.org/t5/Special-Event-Mental-Health-Week/Mind-Body-Challenge-2/m-p/9477#M117
Good luck and keep starting- something will stick.
