Talking through trauma and PTSD

A person who caused me trauma now works near my house.

A person who caused me trauma now works near my house.

hello. i’ve never posted here before, and i don’t know if it’s allowed pls delete or lmk if it’s not allowed.

last year or the year before i was told i have cptsd which wasn’t shocking news. i have had an entire life of very bad things. i got out of a very horrific relationship a few years ago that reactivated a lot of my past trauma as well as causing new traumas. police have charged him and it’s still in court as of rn. i haven’t dealt with it well. in fact ive completely collapsed as a human being and have no idea how or why i am still here but have tried very hard for months to convinced myself that i am okay and that things will only get better from here. i moved to a spot that was away from most things linked with my ex. i don’t like to refer to him as my ex but that’s who im talking about. i got a text today saying he now works, very close to my house. and right beside my only shopping centre i have ready access to as i don’t drive. i’ve been experiencing just complete panic since. ive been shaking and my hearts been racing and ive been so dizzy/sick feeling. it’s the same way i felt the last time i saw him. i’m so worried i will see him, or he will see me. i feel trapped again and that no where is safe for me. i go to a psych through a medicare funded program but my appointment isn’t for another week. i have a fantastic best friend who i live with so i am physically safe but i just can’t stop thinking about him being so near me again. does any one have any advice? or tips? idk really i just need to scream about it

Sorry to hear that you are going through a really tough time. I too suffer from Cptsd so I know how challenging and scary this would be. Are you able to contact your therapist through a text or email? I'm sure they would understand the situation you are in. I have contacted my therapist when I was terrified out of my mind. This would be very triggering and making you more hypervigilant and panicky. Stay in contact with people. Are you able to do online shopping instead. You shouldn't have to change how you do things but it might just make you feel safer. I recommend splashing cold water on your face whilst focusing on the distress you are feeling. Having cold showers can also help with panic attacks. I recommend this app for panic and Cptsd. Box breathing helps with panic also. https://unpanic.app/

Is he allowed to be this close to you if he has a restraining order? Do you think this is intentional or coincidental? Another thing have you been in touch with victims services in your area? Maybe you can set up a cheap camera at the front and back of the property. They are easy to set up and you can sit them on the window sill. So they are looking outside. There is no drilling required or an electrician. I had to do this when I had problems with a neighbour. https://amzn.asia/d/0dr09CW5. They are wifi cameras and they are cheap. You can set them up to connect to your phone also. Highly recommended.
