PTSD- Coping with direct post violence injuries- spinal/nerve injury

Hello SANE Community

I am hoping you are all going gently.

I just wondered if anyone else has difficulty finding support for direct post violence serious injuries. While I have had multiple surgeries (8 in the past 2 years) I am really struggling to find friends who can hold space.

As my current spinal injury (direct impact from violence) has caused a large career change as I physically cannot do my old professions, excluding my psych/doctor, it is really hard to find people who can hold space or who understand the process.

As my type of spinal injury is mostly from MVA I have not met people who are post assault/neck trauma. I am in my early 30s and honestly, I just spend time lying as when I have told people, they freak out or behind my back submit a complaint about answering honestly (I had this at a school I worked at).

Does anyone else relate to this?

Thank you for your time.

Hello@SpicyTemperRusk

Sorry to hear that you have had injuries and have had to put up with crappy people. I have Cptsd and it is mostly psychological but get physical aches and pains and exhaustion.WTF is wrong with some people?

I have never experienced this but it makes me think the people in your work environment are unsupportive and discriminatory. You shouldn't be made to feel like you are the problem. People like that are the problem. You don't have to tell them anything it's none of their business, especially if they are gonna complain cos they don't like what they hear. Where have they lived under a rock? It might be a good idea to change workplaces. Instead of putting up with crap. It makes me think that these people are judgemental and sweep problems under the carpet. Look for a work place that is includes people from all backgrounds regardless of physical and mental issues.

Hey @SpicyTemperRusk

I’m sorry to hear you are finding it difficult to find support after being injured. It’s really great that you have a psych/doctor that you trust and that understand what you’ve gone through. It sucks that people freak out and submit a complaint for you answering honestly. You should be able to tell your story without people freaking out. I hope that you can find support in this forum. This community is here for you.
