Navigating grief and loss

3 years later & still deeply mourning my mother’s sudden passing.

3 years later & still deeply mourning my mother’s sudden passing.

Hello, I have previously replied to a post on this forum, & offered advice regarding loss of a mother, which I hope helped. Unfortunately, I am still unable to come to terms with the sudden & unexpected passing of my mother 3 years later. She was my constant, my protector & my first true love, so how can it be that I will never be able to talk to, hold or see her again?!

When I am alone, I do talk out loud to my mother but it merely highlights the emptiness. I live with the never ending pain of her absence, but sometimes it becomes unbearable, because not only was I left to deal with my mother’s passing, at the same time my sibling behaved deplorably, using my mother’s death to their advantage, & the disrespect shown was so disgraceful that I am traumatised. Sadly no one fully understands, & unless they too have endured similar I cannot expect them to. Thank you.

Hi Bethanny, very sad to hear what you have been through and still going through. Losing a parent is the most unfortunate thing ever, especially if you were close to them. In your case, what is even more hurtful is how your sibling behaved after her passing that has left you traumatised. You are right, its hard to relate to what you are going through, however know this that your mother would want you to lead the best life possible for yourself. Sleep well!

Hi @Bethanny

It sounds like the sudden loss of your mother is still incredibly painful three years later. She was such a significant source of love, safety and consistency in your life, and having to adjust to her absence while also carrying the hurt surrounding what happened within your family after her death sounds like an enormous amount to hold.

There isn’t a deadline by which grief is supposed to disappear, particularly after a sudden and deeply significant loss. I'm hearing how alone and misunderstood you’ve felt in this, though, and you deserve somewhere you can speak about both your grief and the experiences surrounding her death without needing someone to have lived through exactly the same circumstances to take your pain seriously.

I hope sharing some of what you’ve been carrying here has helped you feel a little less alone with it tonight.
