Adult Child with psychosis due to drugs

Adult Child with psychosis due to drugs

Newbie here…needing support. Have I done the right thing…? I have a daughter in her 30’s, thankfully no children of her own.

I cannot deal with the psychotic state of her mind and actions. She’s been kicked out of several places to reside including my home several times. She turns my home upside down, throws things out, argues and laughs with voices in her head out loud. Constant babbling. Menacing, disrespectful, argumentative, believes I’ve said things, voices telling her what ‘I’ own needs to be tossed. Everything is a conspiracy. Everything has a meaning trying to signal to her. Awakes days at a time rearranging my cupboards, it goes on and on and on.

Now with such a broken heart and mental/emotional fatigue, I rang the police and had her removed from my home. Now living in her car. She has burnt every bridge, no job, no friends nothing.

I take some blame of enabling her by giving money, roof, food etc causing her not to believe she has a problem.

If I’d not had her removed, I think I would’ve harmed myself to escape. Going on for years, this was my last straw. How do I stop my painful broken heart of what I’ve now done? 😭😭😭

Good morning @JB66

WELCOME to the SANE forums. Thank you for showing up and sharing with us.

I am sure there will be others in this beautiful community who will jump in to welcome you and offer support.

I'm sorry to read about the situation with your daughter. My heart goes out to you as a mother, I can imagine how gut-wrenching it is wondering if you have done the right thing or not...

It really is so challenging knowing how to support a loved one who is experiencing mental health struggles. You sound like a really loving and supportive parent; there is no doubt you care about her very much. Self-care and boundaries are so important but I know that is way easier said than done.

There are some fact sheets and guides here that might be helpful: https://www.sane.org/information-and-resources/facts-and-guides

Have you got any support in place for yourself at all? SANE offers individual support through the Recovery Club, you might like to take advantage of the free one-on-one sessions and have a chat with someone who will be there to hold space for you.

Here is the registration page: Welcome to SANE’s Recovery Club

I'm sending you all my best this morning.

We are glad you're here with us.

Hi@JB66

Sorry to hear that you are going through difficulty with your daughter. Everyone has their breaking point even though it's hard to have to kick them out. I think anyone in your situation would've done the same. There is no easy answer. The only person that can help themselves is your daughter, she has to make the choice to get help to come off the drugs and face the underlying issues that she is trying to push down. When she comes out of psychosis a good talk with her is needed.should that happen again Maybe you could try calling the mental healthline and they could come out to assess your daughter.

Re: Adult Child with psychosis due to drugs

Thank you for the support and understanding. She is in psychosis mode pretty much full time. I can tell when she’s in a good mood. It’s when she’s on her way out for the next hit.

There’s no getting help for her as nothing is wrong. Everyone else has the issues which she argues what is their problem.

I’ve decided not to cover for her and not be that net that catches and pulls her out of every predicament.

This is where my strength has to lay. I do see a therapist regularly to ‘cope’ living with this, but have decided I’m not going to cope, I want to live without it. Hopefully however long it takes her, I’ll be here.

I’m presently reaching out to different forums and help centres to ease my heart and nerves.

20 years of hell has got to come to finding peace for me…to live again.

Sidenote…still carer to 93 yr old Dad and 89 yr old Mum. I’m the eldest of six who has this roll only, Plus a 44 yr old daughter who is suicidal and I’d quite possibly have her teen son if she goes to jail….God help me.

Wow I feel so sorry for the mother and daughter. Clearly the daughter needs help. I feel like sometimes people are beyond helping themselves and should be taken into care and helped to get well. This is heart breaking.

This is heart breaking, you have so much on your plate. You are a strong woman. It's a pity that places don't take people into their care when they seem beyond helping themselves. I have son atm I want him to get help and the downhill spiral is hear right now. Wishing you all the best for all of you.
