@IRRedacted My guess is there is a serious traumaload for you behind your symptoms.

I have state ward files, some are heavily redacted. Had substance use over 40 years ago. Maybe there are parts of you that need to be felt or seen and given love and attention. Everyone's journey is different.

Hey I understand completely. Bipolar gets a bad rap. Currently in New York it is autumn. There are all different seasons all over the world. A beautiful summer in Japan right now. I think you are being hard on yourself. If we were in America - this would be gearing up for a big rainy downpour. Perhaps this has links to bipolar. That is why it is hard to sleep right now.

Hey there, I don’t have the answers but I just want to say I’m proud of you for reaching out and wanting to make a positive change. One of my friends has BPD and struggles with substance abuse as well but has no desire to stop which is really hard to witness. From the outside looking in, I can see how seriously it’s damaging her life. I hope you have a support network around you. I can only imagine how hard it must be living with BPD and that substance use is probably a welcome escape at times but seeing my friend end up homeless and spending time in jail, I really hope that you have the love and support available to you to find healthier ways to cope. Possibly NA meetings or making the most of any professional support systems available to you might be helpful. I hope you find your way through this. Sending love.

Hi Redacted.

As it happens, I am newer than you (to the sane forums), however would like to add to the conversation. I have a different diagnosis, so perhaps can't offer help there. However, I have read some of gabor mate's work on substances and addiction and found it to be eye-opening (although I do believe some of his views are heavily contested.)

Best of luck moving forward. you got this.

Hi @IRRedacted, I'd suggest the first step is to work on the substance abuse if you want to do that.
