Supporting family with aggression & possible psychosis

Supporting family with aggression & possible psychosis

Hello, first time posting here thank you for reading

I’m trying to work out how to support my brother up in NSW (I’m in VIC) & encourage him to get professional support

he’s recently been through a stressful period of uncertainty with his partner losing her job & it seems to have triggered some really strong aggression, distrust and paranoia towards our dad. we have had a fractured upbringing so I can see why there is resentment there, however this feels like it’s come out of the blue and only seems to be escalating (threats of violence, creating narratives & accusations)

he is taking medication (edit by moderator) & smoking weed regularly and I’m a little worried this combination is tilting him towards psychosis if he’s not there already

I’ve navigated psychosis with friends before but it was more of the hallucination type, less of the paranoia almost based in reality but not quite type and never with this much aggression/possibility of violence

im not sure how to encourage him to seek help because he really doesn’t think anything is up with him, and is very quick to be angry so I don’t want to risk him cutting me off as he doesn’t have other supports - I can’t seem to get in touch with his partner I’m a bit worried he’s watching her phone

any advice/help line recommendations/dos and don’ts would be very welcomed - so far I’ve just been maintaining consistent check ins, not questioning his reality and have got dad to block contact with him

Have you got any support in place for yourself at all? SANE offers individual support through the Recovery Club, you might like to take advantage of the free one-on-one sessions and have a chat with someone who will be there to hold space for you. The facilitator might be able to offer some suggestions.

Here is the registration page: Welcome to SANE’s Recovery Club

I'm sending you all my best this morning.

We are glad you're here with us.
