Procrastination and motivation

Procrastination and motivation

I've been finding it difficult to stay motivated and keep up with university work. I have plenty of time to spare, but I end up doomscrolling, watching my comfort shows, etc., instead of doing the assignments. My friends aren't available to study with me, which usually helps.

Does anyone have tips for getting started on tasks? I always feel so anxious, and I struggle to convince myself to do the work...

Also, I would appreciate sleep tips too. I find it really hard to fall asleep (revenge bedtime procrastination) and I always find it hard to get out of bed in the morning - anyone has any sleep/wake hacks, I'd love to hear it.

i’m so sorry you are struggling. i feel that. i had to take some time off and ended up deciding to study something else. i don’t know how to help but wanted you to know you aren’t alone and i am happy to study with you sometime ☺️🫶

I wonder if it would help to look into strategies for calming the nervous system? I’d also suggest googling “task initiation” strategies. The best advice I’ve seen is to do something to help regulate the anxiety, and then use other strategies that make starting easier.

My strategy for getting to sleep is to put on a podcast but I think anything that softens the transition from being very awake and stimulated to being less stimulated and able to fall asleep is helpful.

Re: Procrastination and motivation

I get up whenever I feel like it. If I feel like bacon and eggs at 2:15 in the morning - I get up and make it. I understand people with families of their own may not have the energy to do this. It can be really hard to operate on different schedules as a whole family. Keep hydrated. Even coffee sometimes can hinder progress. Caffeine, drugs, alcohol - sometimes even sugar can make some people act up.
